This was as skinny a decision as possible. The lawsuit was for the presidential primary votes and the court found that according to state law, the primaries are internal party matters that merely seek voter input on the actual primary election which would be when the RNC names their official candidate at the end.

In other words, neither the question of if Trump can appear on the 2024 general election ballet, nor if he can even be recognized as the Republican nominee in the state, was considered by the court. To be honest, the topic title is misleading >_>

Disappointing, but not surprised. The legal system has made it clear they want to take a very limp & weak hand to holding former President's accountable.

As I've heard it pointed out, the Cons. doesn't say the person needs to be convicted of insurrection, just to have engaged in it, and there is no insurrection without Donald Trump's intentional lies & conspiracies. If he had accepted that he lost there would be no Jan 6th.

Also it would be a can of worms as it would lead to more legal challenges as every state would have to rule on it then the SC would get involved...just not worth the hassle...let Joe and Trump just have their re-match next year and be done with it...

They dont have an official party designation, but six of the seven were appointed by Democrat governors, and the lone Republican appointed justice will be required by law to retire at this time next year.

What if all the states do not allow Trump on the ballot but in an outrage like never seen before among his followers they get everyone to write in Trump on the ballot. But all these followers lack the ability to spell and end up writing in the word Turnip. Then a Turnip becomes the President of the United States.
