Basically it just gets revealed that Nehal, Basim's "friend", has not only actually been a figment of his imagination the entire time, but is also in fact actually the consciousness of Loki inside of him. And he pretty much just straight-up accepts becoming Loki, there's no fight against it like Eivor fighting against Odin wanting control of her.

What pisspoor payoff lol

I do, but the story in Odyssey sucked anus, and Valhalla had some promise but it was pretty messy with all the weird.... well, Valhalla shit.

They need to do a "modern" AC game set during WW2. The whole plot being Hitlers rise to power using artifacts and the Assassins killing him in the end.

Did you play Valhalla? The main playable character in Mirage is the same guy that shows up in Valhalla.

Nope, I know some bits & pieces but it's alright, I stopped following the story after Revelations and a bit of AC3.

Okay yeah, there's too much to explain so if you actually want to know you'll have to look up the Isu lore for Valhalla.

(The basic high-level gist of it is that Eivor (the playable character of Valhalla) and all the major characters (including Basim, the playable character of Mirage) are all reincarnations of the Norse Gods (Odin, Thor, Freya, Loki, Tyr, etc), who were all real Isu that lived 75,000 years ago).

i swear i remember hearing somewhere that one of the early AC games would have been set in a more modern timeline like WW1 or 2, and you'd have to sneak around the battlefield to assassinate your targets

And they're able to reincarnate using this yggdrasril technology?

I don't think either of those can hold a candle to the mess of a story that is the MGS series.

I'm more interested in the setting for Mirage than I was for Valhalla but damn if the latter didn't just burn me out on the "new" series.

I've played all of the main AC games at one point or another but I'll probably end up waiting a bit longer to play this one just because Valhalla bored the hell out of me so thoroughly.

It'd be way better if Ubisoft hadn't chased Patrice off. Nowadays they can hardly go a game without retconning something or having something come up that doesn't agree with established lore.

Did you like Odyssey, though?

I got burned out bad on Odyssey but felt like Valhalla found a good balance to keep the action moving without a bunch of pointless fetch quests. And the story was more interesting and coherent.

Dude, please. MGS are movie games but remain largely intelligible despite some anime plots and twists.

MGS has nothing on shit like Purple Guy / Pink Guy / Phone guy debates, and that was when FNAF only had 3 games. It's a horror series that makes new convoluted lore as it goes, it's in a different league.

At least as early as Origins.

I don't think I ever fully understood how it all works, but essentially the precursor species that made the technology that saved the planet from the apocalypse were also gods or manifested themselves as the gods that inspired early human mythology.

In Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla you're exploring the afterlives and other worlds as expressed in Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greek and Viking mythology.

I don't remember if they were meant to be digitalized recreations of the afterlives and you are exploring the echos of those recreations, or if the Isu actually created these places.

It was actually really cool in Origins and Odyssey, but I think they took it a bit too far with Valhalla when it started becoming an even more integral part of the plot rather than a fun foray into different worlds.

I very much enjoyed Odyssey. I disliked tying certain upgrades to the 10,001 collectibles, as that made it very tedious, even if you didn't give a damn about trophies. The setting, story, and characters kept me into it despite that annoyance.
