No, it just was popularized there (Utah, not Idaho). The first place it showed up, IIRC, was in Louisiana and it is quite likely that it appeared earlier than that (that's just where the first documented location was) as it's not exactly so complex that it wouldn't have been some level of family recipe prior to that. Though unlikely that it necessarily came first, there is also golf sauce, which is essentially the same thing but comes from outside of the US.

Don't know where it came from but yes, I like it with my fries and technically my hot dogs since mayo, ketchup, and mustard is what I put on them.

If it was from Louisiana, why did it get popular in Utah?

It's meh, IMO. I tend to like my fries plain 90% of the time. If I do anything to my fried potatoes, it's salt and vinegar and that's only with fish and chips.

Something tells me you're speaking out of ignorance and disregarding all the things mayo is put in.
Mayo is amazing dressing/sauce that improves everything it touches.
So far, I've only disliked combining it with a chocolate bar, but maybe i chose the wrong bar.

Yum Yum is my favorite sauce thats mostly ketchup + mayo but for fries my favorite would be 2 parts mayo, 1 part ketchup, 1 part Siracha.

I love chocolate with cheese. I tried it after seeing a poster in school repeating the "ch" sound about a guy named Chad who loved chocolate with cheese.

It was delicious. You get the salt of the cheese and the sweetness of the chocolate that hits the tongue just right.

I even turned it into a sandwich with hamburgers buns and that was insanely good.
