I support food stamp but it's crazy how Walmart has made hundreds of billions of food stamp, their workers get food stamp and the store sells food that accept food stamp, so they essentially double dipped on the government benefit.

BTW you can use food stamp on DoorDash as well

There are only so many positions open for that. Someone at entree level shouldn't be in poverty getting food stamps and managers shouldn't have to either. It is the company.

Depends on the state and the type of food service.

That's not the real issue though, it's not the end consumer using food stamps and what they purchase, it's that full time employees are being paid so little the government must subsidize their wages with public assistance.

And it's not as if these government payouts are all going to help struggling small or new businesses to take on employees.

They are being used to subsidize some of the largest and most profitable companies in the world. Companies that could easily afford to pay their workers a living wage.

It's a relatively new right wing mode of dishonest engagement I call the "Fake virtue signal"... it's when a right winger leverages something they normally hate or don't care about to attack you from a false leftist position... in this case pretending they care about workers to shame us for criticizing the problems with tipping culture.

To reason they do this, is to bog down the discussion and make you defend yourself against the accusation instead of addressing the underlying problem which is tipping as a justification for low wages.

Because the right wing strategy is always to encourage the working class to fight amongst themselves and leave the employers to laugh and count their money.

I think because DoorDash is popular with YouTube and TikTok and young folks, and it's growing pretty fast (think Temu)

In hindsight, it is pretty annoying that anyone employed by a corporation needs tax funded programs to just survive. Like, putting aside being humane, why am I paying for that? Do better Walmart.

Its bad enough with Amazon and Walmart, but I think services like Uber eats and Doordash should be completely and immediately shut down because the structure of the business is an unapologetic cash grab. That should not be encouraged; it should actually be harshly punished in this economy.

The CEO of any business should not be allowed to take home more than the median paycheck that his/her company writes. No bonuses or anything like that. Problem solved.

How do we get corporations to pay more without them causing more inflation to keep their precious profits?

The whole structure of most corporations would have to be redone. CEOs and other executives would have to take drastic pay cuts, and I can't see them doing it voluntarily just to help the little guy out. They don't give a shit about people below them. Even management working directly with workers doesn't give a shit about employees.

This would take a higher power stepping in to really work.

The government would have to care. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 for 15 years. If you're on Medicaid, the government makes it pretty much impossible to find a decent doctor who will see you, so you're stuck driving out of your way to some sketchy clinic that employs numbskulls who don't know shit. Rejects who can't get a job at a real medical office.

This country has always been run by the rich. For the past 100 years pretty much all US presidents have been millionaires. Real change would come from some sort of revolution, and Americans don't have what it takes for that anymore.

Many people actually prefer the lower pay so they can qualify for benefits still. Otherwise these businesses would have to offer a lot more then they do now due to the welfare cliff.

They became so big by exploiting workers for more profit.
