that's how the law works. if you and someone else commit a crime together, and your accomplice is killed during the crime, you are liable for their death.

because they have been taught by the legal system that they can get away with minimal consequences. the kid who was killed was suspected in nine previous car jackings. and to my knowledge, has faced zero legal consequences.

it's been a chronic problem where i live, too. kids steal cars, get caught, spend at most one night in custody and are released to their parents. the judge responsible for this doesn't want to 'ruin kids lives', so she just lets them go.

right. the kids pretended they had a gun, which opens the door for their victim to retaliate appropriately. you can't walk up to someone pretending you have a gun and then act surprised when you get shot.

It's a shame, but with most of these carjackings being armed, I wouldn't take chances with someone simulating having a firearm. No time to assess if the threat is real or not.

But for the sake of argument I'll pretend that law makes a lick of sense; it's still outrageous to apply it to a fucking kid as if they had the developed mental faculties to truly understand the possibility of this outcome. No, the only reason to apply that law here is to hurt as many people as possible for the sake of it.

Kids deserve leniency but didn't realize the felony murder rule was controversial, even when applied to adults. It's ok to hold people accountable for their actions

Not defending the children's actions, but cmon. The idea itself isn't really a huge mystery given the day and age we live in.

Juvie is a thing. I imagine the carjacker will speed time there. Surprised he and his accomplice didn't spend noticeable time there after their previous carjacking if they really did have a history of doing this.

The kid had his hand in his pocket, according to the police, and the police claim it looked like he had a gun. So they shot him to death. Yes, that is bad. And you should not be giving the police so much benefit of the doubt when it has been shown time and time again that at an institutional level this is exactly the thing they stretch the truth or lie about.

No. People should be responsible for their actions. If you committed crime A, then you should be punished for crime A and only crime A. You and your buddy committing a crime and you and your buddy committing a crime but your buddy gets shot by cops is the exact same crime and should carry the same punishment.

This is quite a far cry from what actually happened. A police officer alleged he held his hand in his pocket like he had a gun. No gunfire was exchanged.

Given so many isolated incidents I'm just a bit skeptical that you can take a police officer's word at face value, also.
