He has some weird manchild fixation with the character, whom he owns the rights to, and won't let anyone else adapt the character.

It's a weird thing to do. I can't say that I'm particularly saddened by a lack of Dick Tracy. He's a bad cop. Not in a cool, edgy way. In a "let's normalize depriving people their rights" kind of way. Every time he has a hunch, it's proven to be correct. And he's the kind of cop who will keep a suspect under a heat lamp for hours without giving them a chance to speak to an attorney. (Heat lamps were a thing in the time period his stories are set in.) It's the exact image of a law enforcement officer that should not be glamorized.

It's still weird that Warren Beatty is all, "I had my version. No one else can have theirs." This would be like if I purchased the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IP and decided that I would be the last person who would ever get to voice Donatello.

I used to love the movie and reading through the comics in my school library.

I loved the NES game considerably less, but still played the shit out of it. The difficulty was ass but graphics and music captured that pulp feel so well. >_>
