It was bad

I weirdly wanna say it had TOO much plot, since not only did it ruin the suspense and the secrets of the series but it dumbed it down so far that it doesn't even make sense any more.

The acting was terrible. I can forgive child actors for not being good, but the only person I believed was even human was Mike! Vanessa only spoke in trailer-ese.

...

However, Fazbear pizzeria and the animatronics themselves looked fantastic. They definitely brought that 0/10 up to the 2/10 it deserves. And the music seemed like it was all from youtube (Living Tombstone and such).

I weirdly think I, with zero movie experience, coulda directed a much better movie using the same plot.

You betrayed Freddy long before he turned his malicious gaze your way. You lied to yourself and this topic is a clear confession.

The main review I heard was basically something along the lines of "This was a movie clearly made for kids, and it's fine as that. And most of the backlash is all the neckbeard adults pissed that it wasn't made for them."

I have no idea if that's true, though. I've never liked FNAF (or overacting YouTubers making videos reacting to it) and I didn't watch the movie. So it could be a brilliant masterpiece for all I know.

All the "kids" who liked FNAF are either in their late teens or adults now. Kids just play Roblox and Fortnite now.

But... but... the children love the gore.

This coming from someone with zero interest in fnaf, clearly the only reason kids liked fnaf was because it was scary.

Also the fnaf fad is like 9 years old at this point? Those kids have grown up, something IPs always fail on accounting for

*eyeroll*

I wouldn't call the IP creative, for starters. It just mashed together tired horror tropes.

Ehh, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

My friend's 6-year old wants to see it. His 10-year old and 12-year old already have. All three kids play Roblox, and the oldest started playing Fortnite recently. The younger two also play Minecraft (which is another "the fad was over years ago" game).

The trick is, even if younger kids aren't playing FNAF, they're still watching people on YouTube play it (same with Minecraft). The "fads" are never as obsolete as people think they are if they're not still part of the fad themselves.

No they don't. Children are feral little shits. They deserve absolutely nothing.

Ehh, it was a relatively creative concept, presented as a jump-scare simulator. And it perfectly encapsulated a specific zeitgeist (which is why we're still talking about it now). It wasn't the first YouTube-bait horror game, but it perfectly capitalized on that style more than nearly any other game.

It's easy to be reductive and say stuff like "Oh, cute-childhood-thing-reimagined-as-nightmarish isn't original!" (see also American McGee), but the specific implementation was relatively unique at the time (plenty of people have pointed out how creepy Chuck E. Cheese/Showbiz pizza style animatronics could be, but FNAF was one of the first to actually do something significant with the idea).

But even beyond that, pure originality is rarely a mark of quality anyway. Most of the best works in any medium are derivative as fuck, because they're distilling elements from various other works and combining them in ways that make the whole greater than the sum of the parts. Almost everything is built on the shoulders of something else.
