both of the two live action movies of which there are no other live action movies were only as awesome as they were because of matthew lillard

i still can't believe they killed flim flam.

I dunno I kinda think everyone was perfectly cast in that movie

Lillard and Freddy Prinze Jr really killed it, but the others were kinda... eh. But I don't think anybody carried the movies on their back because they were terrible films.

Fred's portrayal in those movies gives me a very similar vibe to Ken (only 20 years earlier, so I guess it's kind of the other way around). Not quite as aggressively tongue-in-cheek as the entire Barbie movie was, but still a similar impression.

Lillard definitely got the closest to the original characters' personalities, though. Well, him and Scooby, but Scooby doesn't count.

Fun fact, the Scooby Doo movies were supposed to be PG-13 movies making fun of the original property but they changed them because they thought they'd do better as kids' movies

I seem to remember at least the first one as feeling a bit like a parody of the property. Scrappy Doo was explicitly that at least.

I think the second felt like more of a genuine "Scooby Doo film" but I could be misremembering, this was so long ago.

the first one was definitely a "this is more for the people who grew up with scooby and not really for kids but kids can watch it just fine"

Those movies were great. The casting was pretty well done and it's thoroughly entertaining. The switching bodies scene floors me quite a bit "geez Daphne, don't you eat?".

Shaggy said he'd be right back, but never came back...

Matthew Lillard as Shaggy is probably the second best casting of all time, right below JK Simmons as Jameson in the Raimi Spider-Man films

Matthew was amazing but Linda Cardinelli & Sarah Geller carried their weight just as much.
