The fear is the close proximity of Seoul to the border and NK having so much artillery and missiles aimed at it, so it's assumed if they went to war, hundreds of thousands of South Koreans would die within the first hour from the opening salvo. After the 3 days the US forces in the area would be fully mobilized... The key is if NK had Chinese support... China has always said they would back NK if the US and or SK invaded... Yet they have gone on record saying if NK started anything including an invasion, they are on their own... With no Chinese support, NK would be squeezed once US troops counterattacked...they last a month at most... If NK attacked SK first, we'd have all rights to strike back at someone preemptively attacking our ally. China wouldn't aid NK if they were the aggressors due to not wanting to look like the bad guys.
