I don't follow boxing, but it seems like it's just youtubers fighting MMA guys now a days. I could be totally wrong, but it seems like the mainstream popularity of boxing has pretty much fizzled out.

All current boxing will be streaming via DAZN and ESPN respectively.

GGG is a husk of his former self. Canelo sealed that up. I do agree, Canelo is a mega star, but Bud Crawford is nipping at his heels.

You have plenty of stars in boxing. The future of the sport belongs to Jaron Boots Ennis.

Boxing has no future after that Tyson Fury riggedness.

Not that I even have any interest in boxing in the slightest, but it was all over my timeline, which only happens in a given topic when something massive happens.

Not, really no. Boxing is boxing. Nobody can tarnish a sport because inexperienced boxers get paid to be a prize fighter.

thats a fuck around and find out scenario.

My knowledge of boxing as an industry is pretty superficial, so correct me if I'm wrong, but IMO boxing's biggest problem is champions having freedom to carefully pick and choose their opponents in pursuit of a perfect record. Until belt holders are required to take on challenges in the same weight class based on tournament performance or something then I don't think Boxing can recover.

Its a double edged sword too because the ones who are willing to risk their 0 on their record can ruin their career and future paydays forever over 1 loss

5 years ago when HBO dropped boxing that was a huge blow for me. I had been following HBO boxing for my entire life and I was 42 at the time. They literally started 3 years before I was born. Saturday night Boxing after Dark was a huge staple in my life and HBO championship boxing brought me a ton of joy over the years. Im still disappointed at the change. So many good fights I watched over the years.

I feel a similar way.

Nothing is worse to me than when the skilled are paid less than the entertainers. Sure, GGG and Canelo are paid well, but there are many boxers I have never heard of that are superior to these YouTubers in so many ways that it kinda hurts to see them not get recognized.

Even worse, it's people like Logan Paul who are profiting off it, so it just really rubs me the wrong way.

I love boxing. I used to box, and I still help out at my old boxing gym on the side.

Boxing is all but dead. Dumb gimmicks are now getting more attention than actual fights, and the actual boxing world is d too subdivided and segmented for mainstream audiences to really care.

---
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Boxing always seemed like it was one of the "big" sports, but it only ever aired on channels I didn't have so I never watched it or developed a taste for it. I imagine that's a big reason for the sport's decline in popularity.

Boxing is done. The fact Fury only won that fight because it was rigged was the dagger in the heart for the sport. Say what you will, but Heavyweight Champ is the figurehead of the sport. The fact the number one dude in the world got embarrassed by a guy fighting his first boxing match says all you need to know. Its done a full horseshoe back into carnival rigged matches, theres not a single boxing fan with two eyes that could make a legitimate case as to why he should have won that match.

while watching Fury all I could think is how George Foreman would eat this man alive, even Lennox Lewis would take his lunch money. Sport is just not attracting the physical freaks like it used to, they all went to MMA, lifting or other sports.

such a bad take.

big event boxing still generates more money than MMA on its best day.

MMA has UFC, PFL, OneFC & RIZIN. Bellator doesnt exist because it was bought put by the PFL. Dont get me started on Dana White.

Boxing has Bud Crawford, Canelo Alvarez, Ngannou (assuming he sticks around), Jake Paul (he may not be good, but hes put a lot of eyes back on the sport from a media perspectivehis last event only pulled in 100,000 buys. his events create a buzz, his events also handed out big pay days for fighters who dont normally get those opportunities.

His(Paul) events and Showtimes short sightedness is the reason why ShoBox is no more. They lost $16M promoting his sandlot boxing matches against MMArtists and got little to nothing in return.

big event Boxing has a lot to look forward to you have Boot Ennis, Bud Crawford, Canelo, Spence, Tszyu, Inoue, Charlos, Ngannou, Thurman, Ryan Garcia, Devon Hanney, Tank Davis, Porgais (misspelled, im sure), Loma, Shakur Steveson ALL GREAT FIGHTERS.

only problem is there is no promotion for these guys for a casual fan. nobody know who they are, not even events are promoted on TV, besides ESPN, to get fans/casuals invested.

boxing is far from dead. the fury incident is the problem with the sport. too much greed and corruption, however, to say that it doesnt exist in MMA is laughable at best.

more people find out about big boxing matches from a third-party.
