Back in the day it was an art form.

Now it's just mindless entertainment.

there are more people using the medium to convey their art now than there have been in the past; you just have to look for their works, since they don't always have the budgets of blockbusters to market their stuff.

Absolutely. There have been some especially creative Spanish and Korean films (among others) released in the past decade. Some of the scriptwriting/plot ideas are brilliant.

It's only Hollywood and theaters movies. The stream and non-american movies are where the fun is.

Big agree. I want to go to the movies but they all feel even more by the numbers now. Everything is over reliant on cgi, it also needs to be sanitized so they appeal to China, Hollywood is scared of creating new ips so they revive 20+ yr old stuff doing weird soft reboots that appeal to everyone and do the bare minimum, sequels are held hostage if the first film doesn't make nearly a billion dollars, etc.

This might the most creatively bankrupt era for Hollywood.

I think the studios are going to keep losing money until they course correct. Over-reliance on nostalgia and IPs isnt sustainable, nor is the constant spewing of bad blockbusters.
The medium wont die, and Id be surprised if a new studio rose up in this day and age as a major power.
But yeah, theres plenty of good movies being made outside of Hollywood if one is willing to take a look. And even then, there are still some decent-to-good films coming out in Hollywood anyway.

only the elder statesmen like scorsese, spielberg, pta, and so forth are still doing interesting work in hollywood.

have to rely on foreign film to fill the void for the most part

The 3 biggest releases of the years, in terms of sales/Oscar hype are Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Flower Moon. Likely Napoleon as well. None of what you said applies to those.

lol you, this is some yelling at clouds shit.

At least Scorsese, Nolan and Ridley Scott are still making some great movies. Killers of Flower Moon was terrific and Napoleon looks really good.

Reminder that people were making Titanic movies soon enough after the incident happened that they hired survivors to play passengers.
