Both of these. Tim Curry could have settled into the role and if we had years and years of that as reference, he could have still been memorable. He... doesn't make a good Joker. I'm sure there are other villains that he would have been great voicing. I think it's pretty clear that Hamill was taking cues from Curry's recordings. There are certainly some similarities.
