I watch these videos of Police interrogations on Snapchat.

9 times out of 10, people end up snitching on themselves.

Its incredible. How many people dont realize that if you ask for a lawyer, the police are literally not allowed to interrogate you any further.

in fact, if they continue to interrogate you, after you asked for a lawyer, you could get the entire case thrown out, even if youre 100% guilty.

there is never a situation where explaining yourself to police is better than asking for a lawyer.

You are not guilty until they can prove it.

At least in the US, they literally have DARE police officers handing kids goodies while telling them that the absolute best thing you can do for yourself is be honest to the police. You're taught the police are reasonable people and your friends

I think people actually think they can talk their way out of it.

Something I find crazy is when they catch these dudes that have gotten away with it for years by having someone with a mic telling them they need to know all the details about this murder they might be involved in before they can move forward. If I had murdered someone ten years ago, and now some ex who wants to get back together said they need to know all the details before they get back with me, I feel like I would be suspicious to the point of not talking to that person any more, let alone confessing my guilt and laying out all the details.

Kinda reminds me of Chris Rock said about Kobe Bryant when he was accused of sexual harassment in 2003.

"What is on Kobe's mind? Going to Colorado, around all these white people, and not bringing Johnnie Cochran? Well, then they say, "Well, if he hires Johnnie Cochran, he's going to look guilty." Yeah, but you get to go home! You want to look innocent in jail? I'd rather look guilty at the mall."

Is this satire?

If they got enough to jam you up for a WEEK then you ABSOLUTELY do not need to speak to them. This means you're close to being a suspect if not alread yone. Gotta be satire?

They can't waste ANY of your time. You don't need to speak with them whatsoever and they can't keep you unless they're charging you. If they stil lwant your time after you asked for a lawywer than you damn well know you needed one. Hence, there being ZERO reason not to ask for lawyer.

Sure.

The police are also perfectly fine with fucking you over for those 30-60 seconds. Anything may be used against you. Even and especially perfectly innocent things.

https://youtu.be/d-7o9xYp7eE

Yes, this is a 46 minute video. I promise you this is actually worth your time.

The tldr of it is that it tells you all the ways you can screw yourself. Even if you're super careful and did nothing wrong. Even the innocent act of getting something slightly inaccurate (Because you earnestly and sincerely just misremembered) can doom you.

Even if you have a flawless memory and do nothing incriminating, all it takes is one witness to contradict your story (Even innocently and non maliciously).

DO NOT
TALK TO
THE POLICE

They are not your friend, they are looking for a conviction.

Totally different scenario

Horrible idea. Police don't want to clear you if they suspect you. They want to find out they're right. They will establish motive, means, oppurtunity and you will be blindisded by the BS they can use to make you say things that incriminate yourself and you wont even know you did it.

There are a reason miranda rights say this.

They or the DA dont give a shit about Miranda rights and letting you see a lawyer. Many will ignore your request until you give them what they want, especially if they believe they have leverage over you.

I mean there was that case where a black guy told the police "I need a lawyer, dawg."

And the police refused to give him one, continued to interrogate him until he confessed. Then in the following lawsuit a court ruled that it was okay because the police thought he was asking for a lawyer who was a dog. Which the police can't provide and therefore isn't a violation of his rights

No I'm not making that up.

There's different tiers of justice in this country. If you're poor and black, you don't have rights and police can do whatever they like.

You gain NOTHING from talking to police and risk endangering yourself. Communicate through your lawyer and or have them present. Your lawyer is smarter and more experienced than you. You lawyer will have dealt with police before and knows the process.

Lines like that is why. Accusing someone with a decent amount of karma of being "terminally online" is the calling card of users who are incapable of staying out of time out.

Now that doesn't necessarily apply to you. Just saying that a lot of other people have used that line before.

It's an old af video. Good advice tho. I'm talking about guilty people who would literally get away with the crime if they didn't just show up and admit to it. Happens all the time. And they're not doing it bc it's the right thing to do. They are just dumb.
