I know there's a few, mostly older ones, but I feel like there's a lot of untapped potential. A multi-part adaptation of The Odyssey would be cool, too. There was a TV miniseries of that in the 90s that I liked as a kid, but something with a bigger budget would be nice.

I really liked the way Troy was handled. Had all the characters but they stayed away from any god like powers and just showed them as humans. I thought it was done really well and was a great movie. Im a Greek mythology junkie. Had 2 dogs named Achilles and Athena.

Im all for it but too often the movies end up too cheesy and delve too far into the unbelievable aspect of it.

They should make a superior Hercules movie/series, so the nut job won't be remembered for the role of Hercules.

We need some Australian Aboriginal mythology. Now that is an untapped well. But maybe its too obscure for popular culture. Even people who dont know anything else about classical mythology at least know Thor and Zeus by name.

Greek mythology is pretty much all political statements. It can even be argued that religion itself was born out of politics.

Good luck with that. The king being a rapist piece of shit is essential to the plot. The whole reason the gods send a wild man to fight him is because he uses right of kings to sleep with brides -- willing or not -- before the husband gets a chance to.

It's only a matter of time before we get a 300 style adaptation of the mahabharata. Once Western society collectively discovers that Indian mythology is basically Dragon Ball Z I think we'll get to see a whole new era of mythology movies.

I'm aware but an actual movie about the march of the Thracian and Greek mercenaries of Kyros the Younger would be kino if done right. You even have interesting characters like Klearkhos, the war loving ousted Spartan harmost of Byzantium who mistreated the citizens of Byzantium so bad that the Spartan army sent to aid him sided with the rebels.

Hercules/Heracles murdering his entire family is also critical to the plot but everyone just seems to ignore that, too.

Yeah, but that's different. He was mind-controlled by Hera. Sleeping with an underage boy? That he did of his own free will.

Oh, boo-hoo.

I mean, it does kind of feel that way sometimes.

Robin Hood redistributing the wealth is a political statement. Batman hating guns because he lost his parents to them is a political statement. The forest people defeating the technologically advanced Empire from Star Wars is a political statement. But it works best when it's in the subtext.

You have audiences ready for cake and ice cream and producers saying, "Get ready to eat your veggies." I don't know that I care to see Hercules defeat the armies of Trumpsicus Maximus even though Trump-like buffoons have been a part of the myth and various film adaptations. Then again, those buffoonish leaders were probably originally digs at someone.

It's not bad to have films with a political message. It is bad for overt politics to be inescapable in entertainment. Sometimes it's important to face facts and deal with the harsh realities of life. Other times, it should be fair to turn off one's brain and enjoy a stupid movie for a couple of hours.

I would say the 2016 remake of Ghostbusters and the 2019 remake of Charlie's Angels might count as examples of veggie movies. Mostly, it's an individual character or scene that amounts to virtue signaling at the expense of the film. Sometimes, a person can roll their eyes at a bad line of dialogue and move on with the story. Other times, it can hinder the movie.

I enjoyed Donald Trump getting eaten in the second Jurassic World movie. But that was a cameo character with two or three scenes. Making Elon Musk the main antagonist of the third film turned meant that the character had significantly more screentime and it turned the film into a bit of a slog whenever he was on screen. If you have an individual that audiences will love to hate, that means they're entertaining even when we despise them. If you have a boring character based on a boring individual, that means the studio is banking entirely on the catharsis we're supposed to feel when that character gets theirs.

In real life, I wouldn't mind seeing Ron DeSantis thrown from a train. If it's coming at the end of a climactic movie fight, I'd rather it happen to the Joker or some Bond villain.
