High school teacher in the 90's told us how funerals would be big business in the new millennium.

I don't want them to die, however I do want them to end their stranglehold on our political landscape and the futures of young people, which unfortunately seems like their generation dying off is the only way that would happen.

I'm pretty sure it was Lee Iaocca who based his business model around where baby boomers were in their lives. Are they young? Focus on fast and sweet cars. Are they older and have families? Focus on family-orientated vehicles.

So, in a decade when all the Boomers dies off, will younger generations move their venom to GenX for being complacent as teenagers and 20 year olds while the Boomers were crippling the economy? Or will we actually start moving towards finding some real solutions to the issues?

Well I'm constantly being told that all we need is for all the Boomer (and older) people in DC to die off and get replaced with younger politicians that actually want to move towards a solution.

How the AOC's and Beto's of the world are going to lead the US into the future once all the Biden's and McConnell's die off.

Those who think boomers are a shitty generation are wilfully blind to the fact that most shitty people were shitty when they were younger too, and something as arbitrary as the year you were born in doesn't make much difference.

It's a generational revolving door. In the end, everyone gets their own turn at fucking things up.

That's what I try to tell them, but (and I won't say everyone, becasue a lot of people do look internal for blame/solutions to their problems) many just say things like "the system is rigged against the young" and base their entire political viewpoints on that "fact".

As a member of Gen X I can say some of that venom is deserved because there are quite a few gross far right and misogynist members of my generation, but in terms of raw blame, Gen X never had the numbers or good voting habits to make an impact on the scale of the previous generation or the millenials that came after us.

They can be angry and shout blame at Gen X all they want, but they're going to have to look at millenials and reconcile with them since they have always had the numbers.

Nah, boomers are the first generation in over a century to leave things this bad off for their children

Yes and no.

There will always be right wingers in every generation. The reason those younger politicians are getting elected now is because they are appealing to those older, conservative voters now.

It's not like in ten years the country is going to vote 90% for progressive democrats and independents... there is always more money and institutional power backing business over people policies, authoritarianism, and white supremacy until those very systems are dismantled... which is really tough to do when your ideology isn't the one that's authoritarian or intolerant.

30-40 years from now GenZ and whatever we'll call the generation after them will be yelling "Yes we agree Boomers broke it, and GenX was complacent, but they're all gone now and YOU were supposed to be the generation that fixed it, and you've done nothing."

And 30-40 years after that future generations will be saying the same to Gen Z.

If all baby boomers died, were raptured away, or were abducted by aliens, we would have the same problems. Bigotry is a generational problem. Every one of those individuals has a successor.

Maybe when it comes to politics, you might have a Democrat president who can appoint a Democrat replacement for a fallen Republican. That's it. For everything else, you have the same problems present in the next generation and the one after.

us millennials are finally in a position where we can do things. If I was an american I still legally couldnt even be president as I am too young. There is still time for us too fix things especially with genz being more open to helping us rather than the useless genx.

This isn't really true since people are mostly a product of their environment. If you're raised & grow up in an age where kids are working & dying in factories, smog & haze is giving people cancer & pneumonia, lead is in paint gasoline pencils & so on, the government at the time is racist & wants to forbid same sex marriage or interracial marriage, etc etc. You adapt those views because that's what you're most commonly influenced by.

The difference now is we have data that shows that Gen Z, Millennials, & Alpha are the most left leaning proportionally compared to other generations & that's why we're not seeing people cape for shitty work environments, more galvanized voting blocks, awareness of climate change, & so on. Gen X & Boomers ignored this evidence & chose to double down on the worst parts of their time, & we're suffering with their repercussions now. Even my dumbass trump parents admit that their generation fucked us over today, but they're still regressives so they'll never actually take measurable steps to fix much at the end of the day.

Trying to infantalize these people is absolving them of their own responsibility & actions in perpetuating our current situation. The entire human experience & wealth of knowledge is at people's fingertips today, boomers & the old could at any moment give themselves correct understanding of where we are.
