Mom just got one of these. Seems pretty annoying and tedious to prepare for. Just the sort of thing I dislike.

I had one last year. Prep was annoying, but not terrible (but I work from home), procedure was nothing. The worst part was that it took my digestion about a week to get back to normal after.

My personal advice is to get one as early as you insurance is willing to cover it.

I waited till I turned 45 and now I have to get surgery because they found a pre-cancerous polyp thats too large to fully remove.

I'm technically of age, but doctors keep telling me it's unnecessary if I have no other indicators that would warrant checking it out up there. It's very disappointing

Eh I'll put it off as I usually do Dr visits but if they make me do one when it 's time probably. To expand upon it, I don't really see a reason to fear them. I just don't want to deal with the tedious prep and potential after effects. One user mentioned it took a week for his digestion to go back to normal. Ugh

I've gotten an MRI, CAT scan, and will be getting a ultrasound exam next week. This will allow the oncologists/surgeons to tell if they can just cut it out via a local resection (outpatient surgery).

Or if they need to do radiation therapy to shrink it beforehand.

It's only 3cm in diameter, so it shouldn't require major surgery. Like removing my rectum.

I have Crohn's disease so I've had to get them since my 20s when I was diagnosed. I've maybe had like 4 or 5 in that time? The procedure itself is fine since you're under anesthesia, it's just the prep that's a bitch.

The polyp they found in my colon is thankfully precancerous, but mine is 4cm (no that it's a competition) and I'm going in for a resection surgery as well.

Hope all goes well.

I've been getting them since I was 28. Yay inflammatory bowel disease!

It really isn't that bad. Mostly starving for a day is about the worst part, followed by the fire hydrant ass caused by the usually detestable prep drink. The procedure itself is easy.

Edit to say I've watched enough folks on YouTube going through cancer journeys, I believe the starting age for these should be lowered to 35 or even 30.

Yeah, the Doc was kinda alarmed by the size along with how many other polyps he found, considering my age.

I don't know much of my father's family's health history, as he was basically an orphan since his father basically abandoned him when he was young and his mom passed when he was 17, but I assume there wasn't a great health history on that side.

It looking like I'll be on the annual colonoscopy train from here on out.

I feel bad for my kids, becasue my wife also had some complications when she had her colonoscopy, so they're both going to have to start getting them at a much younger age than normal.

I have to say that the easier form of the drink (it's called Plenvu here) didn't work very well in clearing my colon.

The next time I have to do one, I'll choose MiraLax. Even if it is supposed to taste worse.

I hear cutting the MiraLax with Gatorade makes it much more tolerable.

I had a liquid prep as well. It wasn't terrible. Forgot what it was called, but it basically tasted like salty robitussin.

Got one a few years ago. Wasn't that bad. If you must get one, there's pills you can take for prep. There's also some liquid stuff that supposedly tastes like shit.

I will get the full procedure if the results are positive or flagged as at risk.

Edit: This is what I said to my Dr. and he was fine with it.

Uh-oh. I'm supposed to have a diagnostic done in a couple of weeks. I think I'm gonna need to check to see if/how well my insurance covers it at my age.
