Ever since I made a topic about Worf being a bad father I been getting back into Trek. So that got me thinking. In the Pale Moonlight Sisko lies and does dirty deeds in order to get the Romulans into the war. No doubt if that didn't happen the Federation the Klingons and many would have been wiped out. But did he do the right thing

The Romulan entry changed the trajectory of the war and allowed the alliance to take down the Dominion, even after the laughably late entry of the Breen thereafter. If not for that, the Dominion wouldve destroyed the Federation and Klingons and then taken down all other powers in the region over the slightest provocation, including the Romulans (who, by themselves and by that point surrounded by an engorged Dominion, wouldve been rapidly overrun).

Sisko saved two quadrants and all it took was killing a Romulan senator and his bodyguards.

It was unironically not as bad as when he made Michael Eddington's planet uninhabitable to humans/bajorans with mutagenic weapons or some such. That was actually fucking insane

It's been awhile but didn't Sisko just want to trick them with the fake data rod? When it went south, Garak was the one who killed him?

The reason Sisko used Garak in the first place was because he knew Garak would do whatever it took to make sure the goal was met. Garak forces him to come to terms with that after the explosion.

It wasn't ever likely the fake data rod wouldn't be figured out by the Romulan examiner. But when the ship was blown up, the imperfections just looked like damage. So the plan needed to "fail" to succeed.
