greco-roman polytheism generally had people worshipping several gods in some way and religion became almost bureaucratic in Rome. Which may be part of why Christianity was very effective there as it consolidated religious observance to one all powerful deity

I don't know about the other pantheons, but with the Roman's at least, I think they would have eventually been monotheistic. I think the Roman religion was already starting to shift into one god when the Christians took over. Something about "The Undying Sun". I need to read up on it more But I think maybe polytheism naturally eventually turns into monotheism, as society evolves But yes, it would be fun if in the modern world, there were still temples to Odin, or Loki, or Poseidon or Hera. ...
