Solar_Crimson 10/15/23 10:32:43 PM #1:	They created this huge, vibrant cast of characters and built lore for its setting, but it seems like such a waste that it only exists as an online PvP Hero shooter. While it was huge, they could have leveraged that to make an animated series, and even some single-player spinoffs that explores and expands upon their world; I haven't played either Overwatch game because I don't like FPSes or exclusively-online shooters, but I would have probably been all over the spinoff if they were third-person action games or side-scrollers. I know that OW2 was supposed to have a story mode or such but it was unceremoniously cancelled despite that being the biggest selling point for OW2, which with the original OW now offline now seems like it exists as a scam to push players towards the more predatory microtranactions of OW2. I never really liked the game (tried to get into it when it came out, but went back to TF2), but could easily see Acti-Bliz were sitting on a goldmine of an IP. I never played the games as I can't name the characters (aside from Mercy and D. Va). Hell in the initial reveal they said OW1 players would be able to play with OW2 players, some behind the scenes big wig probably thought "Well why not force everyone to come to OW2 and remove the ability to buy skins with your in game currency from free loot boxes?" So naturally the push for PVE(Activision at least 90% knew they wouldn't be going through with it, you don't just spend all that time and effort and unceremoniously drop it. With animated lore video, comics, cg animations, they expanded their world/lore and have grown significantly. It now has multiple successful games based on League, numerous #1 music videos, one of the best animated shows to exist, a thriving e-sports league, and stolen marketspace from OW with their own shooter Valorant.
