Actors typically don't make good voice actors, and I think the voice acting in this trailer sounds mediocre.

Also the Japanese track is the original for the production. And has, you know. Voice actors.

1) Depends entirely on the actor and their training. They are different skillsets but many people can do both. Saying actors dont make good voice actors is a bit like saying actors cant sing. But honestly, Cera is a much better fit for Scott when it is only his voice.

2) This is an international co-production with all languages done at the same time, there is no original per se, but you dont make a trailer highlighting this voice cast and not have it be the primary one.

There are obviously some the pull it off fine, but when you go for a gimmick cast like this you're going to inevitably get a bunch of duds.

So far Michael Cera is pulling it off the best because he's not even trying to sound like he does in the movie.

I get where you're coming from, but watching that 2 minute clip from a couple weeks ago in Japanese makes it incredibly obvious that that's what the timing is best aligned with. The same scene that sounded stilted and awarded in English flowed like any other anime in Japanese.

Also I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but I don't know how you can hear the line reads in the trailer and feel anything by depression.

Dude, anime studios do western work all the time. The lip flaps is a bit more compelling but honestly watching those clips and having watched them before, theyre both off? Either way it will be interesting to see which Netflix marks as the original in the options but it doesnt really matter.

Oh there is a 0% chance the dub won't be the default.

I actually am not big in the lip flaps argument because typically just a difference in the Japanese versus American animation process. My main thing is just that, as someone who would prefer a dub if possible, I think here's an enormous difference in quality between those 2 clips.

The main issue with dubbed anime is that most anime dialogue is atrocious, so it naturally sounds worse in your native language. That should be less of a problem for something like Scott Pilgrim.

Oh, I wouldnt be surprised if they went either way on the default. Cyberpunk Edgerunners defaults to Japanese even though the dub obviously has a lot of effort put into it, is the canonical language and has returning voice actors from the game though this seems like more of a proper co-production (I think the scripts are English by OMalley) and has this trailer. My question was a genuine one! I guess it could be either or.

I actually didn't remember that about Cyberpunk, but I think the cast here is too much of a marketing point.

I do think that Cyberpunk's dub was a lot better than the Japanese!

Does it? I watched it on Netflix for the first time recently, and it defaulted to the dub. Unless you're talking about Crunchyroll.

Yeah IIRC it says Japanese (Original) with English subtitles or something like that, but Netflix is weird and I think it might actually differ based on the app you are using. This was on a TV app for me. Ill check in the morning. I remember it specifically because I was surprised!

And yeah dub is definitely the way to go with Cyberpunk.
