Huh I didn't know that, so thanks for that.
Is the game difficult enough to finish if you don't build them correctly or would you be able to get by without min maxing?

I'm at the point where Marche has destroyed all the crystals and defeated Ritz.

Also I got the Steal Ability knife, but it only works on Thieves - a.k.a. Moogles and Humans, right?

I'm not sure about TA2. when I played it, I didn't know about all of these mechanics. I only learned about it when I replayed FFTA a few years ago.

The game is fairly easy so you should be able to beat it even without min maxing
Maybe if all of your characters suck, you will feel like the game is really difficult

Only Humans and Moogles can learn Steal Ability, yeah. the Cinquedea isn't really essential for min-maxing. you can still make great Viera, Nu Mou, and Bangaa builds. Steal Ability just makes the process of getting new abilities on Humans and Moogles a little faster, which can make them feel a bit easier to use.

there's a lot of other hidden mechanics. like the areas where you choose to place new locations on the map will give different treasures depending on the map layout you choose. but I think everyone knows about that. there's actually many secret characters that you can recruit into your guild, and several of them have qualities that actually make them fairly desirable. from unique portraits/sprites, to having some aspect of their build like joining while already having high level abilities mastered.

I don't remember all of the details off the top of my head but I remember going out of my way to recruit the hidden characters just so that I could say that I did it. and I remember it being important to level in classes that give the most speed, while optimizing either a pure physical attack or pure magic attack growth for MOST builds. it's very rare that you want a character splitting their growth between physical and magical attack.

for Viera:
if you gain 10 levels as a White Mage you'll get 48 MP and 88 Magic Attack
if you gain 10 levels as a Summoner you'll get 62 MP and 101 Magic Attack

the slight differences in growths between jobs really adds up
that being said, the Summoner is an EXTREMELY slow class and I usually don't like to level in this class unless my Speed is already very high. the Assassin class is extremely fast, and has MP and Magic almost as high as the Summoner, while also having high Attack. it's one of the few cases where splitting growths is usually a valid option. simply because the Assassin is just really strong in basically every stat, and the Summoner is BARELY more optimal as a Mage while giving up a ton of Speed (we're talking +23 Speed vs +9 Speed over 10 Levels)
