Welcome to the 2023 edition of Most Evil Fictional Character, a single-elimination tournament to determine the most evil fictional character of all time!

-First and foremost, YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT. The reason for this is that these topics encourage a lot of discussion and debate, and it helps me to distinguish a vote from simple discussion if all votes are bolded. So, I state again, ALL VOTES MUST BE BOLDED FOR THEM TO COUNT. I reserve the right to be lenient in early topics if people just aren't getting it, but for the most part, IF YOUR VOTE ISN'T BOLDED, IT WON'T COUNT.

-You must vote for which of the two characters you honestly believe to be the more evil of the two. You can determine this via any method you like, use your own morals and judgement, read all the arguments made to determine your choice, or however you choose to make your pick, but you must only vote for the one you truly believe is the most evil. This isn't a death battle, or a popularity contest. You're voting ONLY for the most evil character out of the two choices presented.

-While on that subject, remember that because this isn't a death battle or a fighting tournament, do your absolute best to consider the two characters as if their power levels were equal (either the weaker character brought up to the level of the strongest, or vice versa, or both if you want to consider both possibilities). Therefore, just because, for example, one of the characters blew up a planet and the other one merely kicked a puppy, doesn't necessarily mean the planet killer is more evil than the puppy kicker. Consider the characters as if they have the exact same capabilities and what they might do in that scenario.

-You can make any arguments, debates, etc. you want in this topic. Discussion is STRONGLY encouraged, a fun debate about which of the two characters is most evil is exactly what these topics are for. Just don't make it personal, no insults or flaming, keep things civil even if you disagree. Also, no vote rallying, if you want to encourage people to vote for your character you need to at least make some semblance of an argument as to why, even if it's just "Character X did (really dastardly thing), I can't believe no one's voting for them!"

The following write-ups will contain untagged SPOILERS for Dragonball Z/Super and DC Comics. Proceed at your own risk!

FRIEZA

Frieza is a major antagonist in the Dragonball anime and manga.

After inheriting Cold's imperialist army and rising to power as the emperor of Universe 7 at a young age, Frieza quickly established himself as a ruthless tyrant, feared across the universe for his unparalleled cruelty and power. After one of the races he subjugated, the Saiyans, attempted to revolt against him, the tyrant retaliated by laughing maniacally with delight as he prepared a Supernova to annihilate their home planet of Vegeta. The attack consumed Bardock and some of his men as it buried itself deep beneath the planet's surface resulting in a massive explosion, eradicating nearly every Saiyan. Frieza tends to handle most situations with a systematic approach. He commonly utilizes dark humor, making twisted jokes and tasteless mockery of his foes before killing them. Frieza is fully aware of his reputation for brutality and makes no effort to deny it, but instead revels in it as evidenced by his introduction to the Namekians. Likewise, he has shown great anger at the idea of his cruel deeds being undone, such as the revival of all his previous victims from the Dragon Balls. Frieza can be best summed up as an intelligent, composed (for the most part), yet extraordinarily sadistic and completely heartless sociopath. He has absolutely no qualms with slaughtering his own forces, no matter how loyal to him, simply for being in his way, as seen from when he destroyed Planet Vegeta despite most of his men being within the trajectory, as well as his reason in the Japanese version for executing a soldier before deciding to personally deal with Future Trunks. In addition, when executing Tagoma by shooting him out into space, he also made no attempt at activating the secondary window to save his forces from being sucked into the vacuum of space. He also reacts violently to criticism or if his plans either fail or if his pride is abashed. At his core, Frieza relishes glory, power, agony, dominance, control, and destruction, as shown in his enjoyment of making his enemies suffer before he kills them. He is one of the most sadistic and megalomaniacal beings in the known universes, without any sympathetic or redeeming traits. When Kikono states that the Frieza Force are criminals, Frieza retorts by saying that they merely overtake planets to sell them to those who need a new planet, viewing the interactions as transactional and demonstrating how he makes excuses for his malicious crimes and feels no responsibility for his actions.

EOBARD THAWNE

Eobard Thawne is the arch-enemy of the DC Comics superhero The Flash.

Eobard Thawne, also known as the Reverse-Flash and Professor Zoom, is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is a twisted sociopathic criminal, with a brilliant mind and super-speed, that was born in the 25th Century and travels through time to do battle with his most hated enemy. His parents genetically engineered him to be highly intelligent and to have a particular appearance. However, as he grew up, they become concerned about his lack of social skills and tendency to daydream, which was frowned upon in their very regimented society. Hoping that caring for a sibling would help Eobard adjust, his parents had a second son, Robern. Eobard illegally began doing his own research on the Speed Force. However, he was caught by Robern, now an officer in the Science Police. A future version of Eobard traveled into the past and prevented Robern from being born. Eobard fell in love with a reporter named Rose who had been hired by Central City Science Today to interview him. However, he learned that she was engaged. His future self interfered yet again, killing Rose's fianc and eventually every man who she had ever dated. When she steadfastly refused to believe that her fianc was gone for good, they became platonic friends. However, she continued to rebuff Thawne's romantic advances, eventually retaliating physically when he attempted to kiss her. In anger, his future self traumatized Rose as a child, rendering her mute and causing her to be institutionalized for the rest of her life. Eobard now had all the time in the world to dedicate to his studies on the speed force. He later replicated the accident that gave the 21st Century's Flash his powers becoming the flash of the 25th century and in travelling back in time he realized that his fate was to collide with The Flash as his worst enemy. This painful realization broke Eobard and drove him mad and lead him to become the villainous speedster known as the Reverse-Flash. This also lead Eobard to create his own Speed Force by the being the opposite of the positive one which made it the negative Speed Force and due to Eobard's arrogant, cruel, unstable and sadistic nature, he easily able to connect with the Negative Speed Force. The Reverse-Flash then constantly travelled back in time to do battle with his nemesis, eventually coming into conflict with many other superheroes as well.

Once I found out he was inspired by real estate speculators, I knew he had my vote. I work for these guys and they really are pure evil.

No but really it depends how you weigh their evil. Frieza generally goes bigger in scale but he at least has some class and restraint. Thawne is usually focused on one guy but the sheer levels of bullshit he pulls to fuck with said guy is comical. He also did shit like abort his own brother from time.

This one doesnt seem that debatable to me. Thawne is basically obsessed with ruining one guys life, but Frieza finds genocide hilarious.

I think this is one of those weird matches where its deciding what is more evil. Frieza will mostly just jump to killing you / blowing up your planet and going about his day. Thawne meticulously and obsessively tries to ruin every facet of one guy's life or let him do something stupid and fuck the consequences (including letting Barry possibly fuck up the universe which even Frieza was willing to put aside his grudges to help save even if for partly selfish reasons). He even does this for petty things like making him miss a catch at a ball game on top of fucking up his own family.

Still, Thawne might have some instance(s) of good somewhere like most antagonist DC characters. Frieza also seems liked enough that he continuously gets huge support and goons going out of their way to help revive him and he is generally more reserved in demeanor.

Though yeah generally speaking Frieza will jump to bigger scale stuff on his own accord. I could be wrong, but I don't think Thawne goes out of his way to try to personally destroy the whole planet on his own to get Barry (even if he is willing to let potentially worse happen as a "lmao fuck you idiot look what you did" to the guy). Thawne ultimately wants to be the absolute best villain for Barry and Barry alone which, considering time shenanigans and Flash being this big deal in the future which in turn led to Thawne's antics to make Flash into that, makes the whole thing kinda weird. The extra time shenanigans involved also muddle the whole situation. Someone more familiar with DC would be better to clarify.

as someone who doesn't know flash lore well, man thawne seems so punchable lmao still voting for frieza though. i think the wider scale of his crimes is more unforgivable.

The level of petty Thawne has isn't just reserved for the Flash. But for anyone who even slightly annoys him. To the point even the other rogues hate him IIRC. He does things out of pure spite, and I think that makes him a bit more evil. When a woman rejected him, he went back in time, killed her fiance, killed everyone she ever dated, and then when she still rejected him, he went back in time and caused brain damage that left her mute when she was five.

Thawne seems to explicitly think of himself as a villain and does things to further his villainy. Frieza, on the other hand, seems to think of himself as a businessman, albeit one who revels in being especially cruel. I don't think Frieza thinks what he's doing is wrong, whereas Thawne might actually think he's wrong but does it anyway (out of predestination?).

Not sure where I'm going with this but it's interesting to think about.

If evil is petty he wins that hands down, Frieza I view more as "yeah genocide is fun, but not today not in the mood they can live longer" vs "It was me Barry I fucked up every single detail of your life even made your great grandmother stub her toe when she was 5. Basically, fuck Eobard Thawne.

I think this is a case where if Eobard had Frieza's raw power, he wouldn't cause as much devastation, but if Frieza couldtravel through time, everyone wouldbe fucked

Frieza carried out a racist genocide and hated them to an extremely petty level so I know he can be as petty as Zoom and with time travel powers would wipe out the entire race before they existed.

Thawne because Frieza isn't as big a deal in Dragon Ball Super. When he comes back the first time, Goku and Vegeta hold back instead of using their full power from the start. After that, he joins the Tournament of Power team and ultimately comes in clutch despite taking every chance he can to be petty. Goku and Frieza are basically frenemies now. Thawne has Frieza beat on pettiness and he's very creative with his methods.

I think if its DBZ only, Frieza probably wins, but he gets watered down quite a lot in Super. Very inconsistent portrayals overall. Thawne is also willing to inflict pain on a more personal level.

Leaning more toward Thawne in this case just for how meticulous and kooky he goes along with some of the other points made about Frieza.
