If I'm not mistaken, someone in his campaign just pleaded guilty to fraud a week or so ago. The fact that the GOP hasn't expelled him tells you all you need to know about their integrity.

It's when they add more charges to an existing case. He was already indicted on 8 criminal charges earlier this year. Now he's facing 23 charges that are similar/related. Still trying to find the actual indictment document to see exactly what the new charges are.

CBS has a summary of the charges.

Prosecutors filed a 23-count superseding indictment against the New York Republican in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Here are the charges he faces:

• One count of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States
• Two counts of wire fraud
• Two counts of making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC)
• Two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC
• Two counts of aggravated identity theft
• One count of access device fraud

These new counts have been added to the charges in the original indictment against him:

• Seven counts of wire fraud
• Three counts of money laundering
• One count of theft of public funds
• Two counts of making materially false statements to the United States House of Representatives

So yeah... given the fact that his treasurer plead guilty... He's screwed

The sad part is that his family bailed him out on the initial indictment even though they didn't have enough money to cover it... So they pretty much had to offer up property as collateral. The judge had to talk to them about how they're responsible for him and they need to make sure he stays in line to avoid losing what they have.

Now he'll have to be booked again and they may have to offer up more if they're going to cover for him again.

I'm not surprised in the slightest. My congressman is an unrepentant piece of shit.

I mean if you really think about, it's the Democrats fault.

I might drive by his office in a few minutes and see if there's an impromptu protest.

Funny how almost all of the notable criminals in politics are Republican.

I guess Santos rejected a plea deal after Marks pleaded guilty. Zeldin was also using Marks as a treasurer and he might be in trouble too.

Can't wait for this criminal sack of shit to finally meet the consequences he's been dodging his entire life.

there's no way the other reps are spending the money they do and not fully investigating the people they're against. a corrupt republican is still better than a democrat to them.

The usual vetting process was skipped by both parties.

I think Person #1 is Samuel Miele. Until this indictment, he was likely pleading guilty tomorrow to his own indictment for impersonating McCarthy staffers to get Santos donations.

I mean, they could have chosen not to offer up their home or whatever as collateral to help him

These are federal charges, so I believe the state's decision on bail wouldn't apply.

Something seemed a little off about Santos. The district he is in was solid democrat for a decade, then this guy comes in and flips his district in one of the few races republicans actually got an upset win during the midterms.

And here it is. Probably the least of his problems right now.

This month Santoss treasurer pleaded guilty to helping further his illegal schemesincluding a $500,000 loan Santos himself claimed to have given to his campaign when he only had less than $8,000 in the bankand Santos was hit this week with a 23-count superseding indictment which included accusations of pocketing campaign donors money.


There are significant possible penalties for knowingly failing to file an annual financial disclosure. Aside from a $200 late fee, the instructions members are given to file their annual financial reports notes that the Attorney General may pursue either civil or criminal penalties against an individual who knowingly and willfully falsifiesor fails to file the financial filings that are required under the Ethics in Government Act. The maximum civil and criminal penalty in such cases is $71,316, according to the document.


Santos himself has acknowledged that his report hasnt been filed, telling the AP last month that he would rather be late, accurate, and pay the fine than be on time, inaccurate, and suffer the consequences of a rushed job. However, far from rushing at this point, the filings were originally due in May, and Santos never filed to request an extension. Meanwhile, his fellow House members, some of whom have vastly complicated personal finances and net worths climbing into the hundreds of millions of dollars, have all managed to file the form detailing their assets, liabilities and transactions on time. For example, Rep. Darrell Issawho has a net worth of around $460 millionfiled his financial disclosure in July.

The idea that these shitheads don't have the ability to produce their detailed financials within a few days tops is so insulting.
