Really, the Israel/Palestine situation has always come off as the equivalent of a public battle between two supervillains: even if they have valid reasons, it's hard to truly support either, & the only truly acceptable choice between them would be the innocent civilians caught up.

I don't know nearly enough about the conflict to choose a side. It sounds like maybe Israel is the lesser evil but they're both garbage? Or maybe that's propaganda and it's the other way around? Idfk

Egypt controlled the Gaza Strip, literally occupying it with it's military forces. Same with Jordan and the West Bank.

And, I might point out, that was the situation from 1948 to 1967. For 19 years, friendly Arab countries protected the Palestinians. And the Palestinians never once sought to declare an independent state.

Not once.

Not once.

Instead, those countries spent the time getting a carve-out in the UN definition of "refugee", just for the Palestinians, and then ensuring that they stayed refugees under that definition. There were minimal efforts to actually improve their situation.
