Ticketmaster and food delivery apps are seething.

Also, what's up with all the Newsom articles lately? Are governors of other states just sleeping?

Now, do the same with sales tax. The price on the shelf should be the price you actually pay.

Nothing is stopping companies from adding fees but with this bill they have to be upfront about it. This creates a level playing field among businesses and a fair expectation from consumers that the price promoted is the price they will pay.

I think it really just means they have to be more upfront with what the actual final cost is going to be

That's... what happens.
Instead of "$50!" then "oh by the way, there's also $30 in bullshit fees" at checkout, it's just "$80" now.

It's much better for a product/service to be listed at $120 than to be listed at $60 and have $60 of hidden fees tacked on at checkout.

With the actual price visible, people can make smarter choices when it comes to their purchases.

Unfortunately it excludes stuff like sales tax

We all know why, but it's still bullshit.

The problem is they'll do something scummy like advertise a super low price then slap on the fees at the end.

Something that's 80 bucks from the beginning is a lot less predatory than something advertised as 50 bucks but then is brought up to 80 after all the extra fees that weren't advertised are added on.
