what resolution is it

cuz "ultragear lg 4k hdr 160 hz" that i see on a website lists two hdmi 2.1 ports. so you should be able to get it to 4k 120 hz with a recent hdmi cable (one that can transmit 40 gbps or higher).

Without specifying whether your computer even supports those rates, I would say your best bet is display port.

And I would not recommend a monitor unless it has a refresh rate divisible by 24.

HDMI cable might not have the right bandwidth if you can't set it to 160hz

Use DP

It reads as 1920 x 1080
It also is stated to have 2 hdmi ports AND a Display port.

Also it is 165hz, sorry.

(one that can transmit 40 gbps or higher).

I will have to shop around.

And I would not recommend a monitor unless it has a refresh rate divisible by 24.

Please elaborate as I am not versed in this.

You have to manually change your screen's refresh rate in your operating system's display settings. I haven't used HDMI monitors in years but DisplayPort has has never given me any issues.

Almost all media is 24-30 frames per second.

If they're refresh, rate is not divisible, you get tearing or you need to start interpolating frames.

i had a 1440p 165 hz monitor but 165 hz could only be achieved through overclock and it made the picture worse so i just kept it at 144 hz. it was an asus pg279q! one of the earliest 1440p ips panel high refresh rate monitors i think.

i wonder if tc can just keep the monitor at 144 hz or something. tbh i couldn't even tell the diff between 120 hz and 144 hz so prob not a big deal

My 144hz monitor only supports high refresh rate with Displayport. It's just a thing.

This - if windows, right click on desktop -> display settings -> advanced display -> choose refresh rate and pick from drop down

If it isnt an option, may need DP or HDMI 2.0

At this point, HDMI needs to die. It's not keeping up with displayport, version 2.1 is a fragmented mess, HDMI over USB-C is dead, and there is no future connector.

All DisplayPort really needs at this point is a replacement for earc.

No option so DP is probably needed then.

I was also planning on getting a mac mini sinc its kinda cheap but that one lacks DP too.

checked the manual online, apparently 144hz is doable with HDMI and from what I gather from previous post that would be better as it would not need to interpolate.

ohh maybe you can change it to 144 hz through the monitor's menu system

Well there's differently HDMI like 1.4, 2.0, 2.1

I think my monitor has the old HDMI. DisplayPort AFAIK is basically designed to send higher volume but I guess HDMI caught up

I tried but it does not give me an option to do that, this is an hdmi cable that came with the OLED Switch so me thinks nintendo is not givin me the latest tech to support it.

Gotcha, my old laptop blew up and Im using a super old laptop in the meantime so it probably will not even support it.

This is why I was thinkingon the mac mini since I hav always liked laptops due to being able to work on the go, but a portablecomputer is still good on that regard.
