Why?

I'm guessing it's because they don't want to move over more than once, but this shit is frustrating as hell. Especially when the lead car is doing like 5 over the limit and there is a trail of 20 cars behind them, just seething together.

Shh... it saves the right hand lane for ppl who like to drive faster.

Can't count the times I'm in the better lane on the right... either just above speed limit cruising past, or watching the left rubberneck & wondering if they still think that's the fast lane.

I'll often just drive in the left lane (typically going +10ish), but I'll also scoot over if I notice a vehicle gaining ground.

Because Im going 80 and passing everyone in the other lanes?

I hate it when there is a car up ahead in the middle lane and I am going faster than them on the left lane and will be passing them soon, and then a car behind me tailgates and flashes the headlights, so I move over to the middle lane thinking there should be plenty of time for them to pass me before I catch up to the car in the middle lane, only for the car to pass me extremely slowly so then I get stuck in the middle lane behind the slow car.

So sorry. I'm not switching lanes until I pass the car. You can wait.

I stay in the left lane if there are a bunch of cars in the right lane I'd have to weave around. If the right lane is clear I'll go over there and keep my 15mph over the limit speed.

I'm not moving to the right lane behind some slow mf just because someone behind me wants to go 90mph.

Thankfully this isn't a thing in LA

I'm in one of the few states where it's legal. You'll never catch me going slow in it though, unless there's a cop ahead.

Reminds me of a story involving a friend of mine on a two-lane highway. Some other driver was being a dick for some reason so my friend got in front of him, sped up in the left lane beside a 18 wheeler in the right, and kept pace with him for like 80kms.

This too. I dont get why drivers creep on you fast and then when you more over to let then through they suddenly get scared and go the flow of traffic or slower

The only trolling i do is if im in the left lane trailing multiple cars since there are so many slow people in the middle or right line.
If i see somebody behind me change lanes to the right to try and get ahead of me even though there are mutplie people ahead of me and slow people on the right lane we are passing, i close what gap i leave in front of me so they cant pass me and have to go back behind me.

most places are here are two lane. people dont use the left lane for passing, they just use it to go really really fast all the time. it makes ever needing to turn left really annoying because some dude will be wanting to go 90 in a 55 behind you half the time and they view the ten seconds you were in the left lane as a personal affront

Because I'm passing and everyone sitting in one lane would back up traffic

I drive German cars specifically so I can snizz by all the slow old people clogging up the right lane.

Let's all putt along in a line at 10 under and double our commute time so people going 30 over never have to slow down.

Every time I have issues on the road it's a situation like this. Americans are entitled to the left lane even if there's no laws specifying being in a left or right lane. Generally yes you want slower vehicles in the right, but that's for a minimum speed limit or large vehicles. The left lane isn't the "speed limit is 70, the car is going 70 in front of me, but I want to go 90 so fuck this asshole for hogging the lane."

That's not how this shit works & I'll fight anyone on that

Left lane hogs are some of the most infuriating people out there. It's crazy when you stumble upon the ones who literally will not move no matter what, even 5-10 people passing them on the right doing nothing to deter them.

It's state dependent but in the vast majority It's illegal to cruise the left lane, pass or get back over. It's rarely enforced but is indeed a ticketable offense.

Typically when I stay in the left lane it's because I'm in a high traffic area where I know from past experience that people in the left lane won't let me back over when I get to my turn. I have a stretch like this that I have to pass through every afternoon, and tbh I'm way past giving a shit

Similarly, only a handful of states allow exceeding the posted limit when passing, and even then only when actually passing.

This isn't what people do though. I have to use the highway a lot in my state, when it gets to the two lane areas, the left lane just becomes the "I want to speed & go fast lane." People aren't using it to turn, pass slower larger vehicles, or people going the minimum. If assholes want to go 90 they can go to a track, the limit is what it is, & most cases when fords & pickup truck dudes are being douches about it I was already going 5 or 10 over. So if we're ticketing for "hogging" the left lane when you want to stay out of the way of people merging from the right, we aren't at that point & the speeding needs to be addressed first.

You're objectively right but people will refuse to hear it and prefer to believe that they've discovered a secret trick to go 10-15mph over the speed limit at all times because they've never gotten pulled over for doing it. It's like trying to convince someone that you're not supposed to drop your trash on the ground wherever you want in public. You're not supposed to do it, and there are rules for it for a reason, but as long as they never see consequences they can't comprehend why they shouldn't do it.

This for me. The road I mainly drive on has a LOT of entrance ramps. And even at 3 in the morning with no traffic, there's always someone coming into the right lane just as I'm approaching one. So it's easier to just stay to the left.

That said, I don't understand the people who come up behind me at 80-90mph when I'm pushing 70. Where the hell do you need to be at this hour? Leave your house earlier. And it's ALWAYS a pickup truck with nothing in the back.

Even worse is that it's become commonly accepted by people because it's a peer pressure issue that everyone behaves like assholes on the road in regards to the left lane. The point is to share the road, try to move over, & if you want to go slower be in the right lane. But if you're going at the limit or right above it, you can go in the left lane & not actually have someone scream at you through their window & flip you off like I've had people do before.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to shoot me over it eventually, the laws in my state do not specify the left lane as the "go as fast as you want" lane.

In TX it's against the law to stay in the passing lane as it's only meant for passing, however I hardly see anyone actually pulled over for it.

It's mistakenly called and referred to as the "fast lane" so most people associate it as the lane where you go fast if you wanna go fast.

I dunno where you live that traffic isnt a thing, but here if the left lane wasnt used for regular driving the other lane(s) would be so full and slow moving that people would have to use the left lane to pass them for miles anyway

I'd like to know why people go the speed limit in the passing lane, but when they finally move over they go like 10 over so I have no idea if I should pass them or not.

If someone flashes their lights at me I immediately ease off the gas and start coasting. Oh is 15 mph over the posted speed not fast enough? Then let's go 65 for a while, see if you like that better.
