What's funny is McCarthy expected Dems to keep him on after the shutdown was avoided...

Gaetz got his big moment, he said he'd get McCarthy sacked and he did...
No he offered nothing in order for the Dems to vote for him. He also does not keep his word and Dems were reminded on Sunday that McCarthy was blaming the Dems for the shutdown.

Why do democrats when the guy who isn't batshit insane to be replaced with a batshit insane person?

They're betting that the theoretical batshit insane person who would seek to replace McCarthy would also be unable to get enough votes to win the job. That the fracture between batshit and not-batshit could be wide enough to force some faction of Republicans to come to the table on a coalition/moderate candidate.

So I guess that the Democrats' demand is for a consensus speaker, I'd imagine?

Democrats are still saying they're only voting for Jeffries. Who Republicans will naturally never support. So it's hard to see what's gonna give here.

Real world: republicans can't get their shit together, let's just vote them out to avoid their BS in the future.

They both spend and charge up the national debt guys, it's just one side spends towards the working class and the other helps the billionaire class (not to mention fucking people over in the process). Choosing where to stand on the right side of history has never been this clear.

I say the temp stays in power until end of the year

"The Speaker pro tem could stay in the chair," Josh Huder, a senior fellow at the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "There's not [a] forcing mechanism for a new election, nor are there any overt restrictions on the power the pro tem would wield. The support of the conference would dictate the durability of this."

Democrats had no reason to help McCarthy. He constantly lies and backstabs any deals he makes. He brought this on himself.
Yep. McCarthy got help from the Democrats to pass a continuing resolution on the budget then went on TV and tried to blame Democrats for us almost having a shutdown. The idea that Democrats should or would come to McCarthy's rescue as some kind of professional courtesy after that is ridiculous.

MAGA wouldn't ok anyone similar to McCarthy without the same deal McCarthy had, so it'd just lead to that guy getting booted in a month and half when they also refuse to shut down the government.

I'm not sure how willing the GOP is to repeat a cycle of failure.

Yeah, the MAGA Republicans above all else, are short-sighted, stupid and delusional.

This might actually piss off old guard Republicans enough to stop putting up with MAGA Republican nonsense, since now their alliance with them is costing them their power.

This.

It was obvious this was going to happen the moment McCarthy agreed to these insane rules in the first place. His party wouldn't agree to him being the speaker unless he agreed on rules that made it so that essentially any single upset member of the House could vote for his removal - and in the current political climate of the country it's obvious that members of the opposing party are going to agree to remove him regardless of what he's actually done since they have absolutely nothing to gain by a Republican party that's operating in harmony. McCarthy had essentially put himself in the same exact position as Scar; king of the House but everyone wants him dead - and all it took to topple him was a mere nudge.

There is no rational way forward with any member of the Republican Party at this point. They dont have any rational leaders, it is all performative trolls and grandstanders. Which is exactly what their base wants. McCarthy was as bad as the rest of them, and even he was doomed from the minute he picked up the gavel because he is not quite crazy enough for a bad faith party that has gone completely around the bend.

The only way out of this is for America to wake up and vote this version of the GOP into the political wilderness. Every election. Until that happens, it doesnt matter what stand in beholden to the Freedom Caucus is actually up there. The Democrats might as well stop the GOP led house in its tracks and show the nations rational voters again that the GOP is utterly incapable of leading. Because MAGA ridiculousness has completely taken over this party, and as long as that cult has access to any levers of power, it is useless to hope that someone slightly less insane than the GOP norm will be Speaker.

You were literally in a topic earlier this year "just speculating" that Trump "might" actually have proof there was election fraud, and your "speculation" was all what amounted to "Biden is so bad I can't imagine how he won."

Such as here:

Now I'm not American, and I'm just speculating here. I certainly would never have voted for Trump, but I did watch at least one of his SotU speeches just to see the trainwreck.

You could not pay me to watch a Biden SotU speech. I value my time way too much.
