That's messed up. Guarantee that piece of trash driver left the cat in the carrier on the side of a road somewhere after he became "startled" by it.

How did the passenger not take the cat out - did the Lyft driver pull away too fast or something?

There are more tweets with more info. Guy was in the back seat, driver's side, got out and went to the passenger side to grab the carrier. Driver starts driving away, passenger started banging on the windows and screamed for the driver to stop, which probably freaked the driver out.

Passenger then tried contacting the driver through the Lyft app several times but didn't get a response for 2 hours, according to him.

There's more tweets detailing his story.

The passenger went to go around the car to get the cat out and the driver took off. He tried to contact the driver but he wouldn't respond. He's getting no help from Lyft, other than a $20 service fee refund. He had to file a report with the police. After he filled a report and the cops contacted the driver, the driver finally called him back. The driver told him he is allergic to cats became startled by the cat once he realized it was there and drove off. He claims he doesn't know what happened to the cat and that he picked up other people after the incident.

It likely would have been easier to lift the cat out of the car while he was standing outside of it, rather than lifting the carrier out while also negotiating trying to get out of the car

he could have got out bend over grab the carrier pull it to him and then pull it out of the car, if it's still hard that makes me wonder what type of cat did he had there, a small tiger or something?

have you ever had to take a cat, in a cat carrier, out of a car?

I have a cat, and while I don't normally put the carrier in the foot well (my carrier allows you to secure it with a seatbelt), if I had done this, it would absolutely be a lot easier and safer for the cat for me to pull it out while I am outside of the vehicle. If I just grabbed the handle from the top of the cat carrier, the weight of the carrier and the cat always feels like the handle is going to snap off, so I normally have to put my other hand underneath. Cat carriers can be big and when you want to remove a cat safely from the car without jarring it around, it's easier to do it while fully planted outside of the vehicle.

yes i have and you can totally get out of the car and take the carrier out from the same side you just got out from and unless the carrier you have isn't that good or you have godzilla for a cat i doubt the handle will snap off, going around the car to take the cat out from the other door is quite weird

Considering he was taking the cat to a vet appointment, he probably wanted to pick the carrier up from the driver's side so he didn't jostle it around too much maneuvering it past and across the seat

I don't see a reason to analyze what the passenger did at all. Don't really know anything about him personally. Maybe he has a bad back that would make getting out with the carrier at the same time very hard for him. I don't know and I don't care. He didn't do anything wrong either way.

The fault is on the driver for driving away too fast without making sure the client had everything and if a later passenger stole the cat then that part is on them.

So, he's allergic to cats and got scared. Drove off, leaving the cat he's allergic to in the car. Apparently never takes the cat he's allergic to out of the car, and goes on picking up other people.

That makes zero sense.

Are you suggesting the cat owner lied? But what possible motivation would he have?

I hope Lyft has him at least suspended until the cat turns up. Even if all that bs is true, he's not fit to be a driver.

If he closed the door and was walking around to the other side, from the drivers perspective he closed the door and was just walking behind the car. Why would he think he's going to open the other door and grab something? Usually they look at you when you first get in the car though, so I would think he would have seen the carrier. Regardless, I really hope the car is ok.

The guy dumped the cat. No other explanation. Question is WHY didnt he stop when passenger told them and banged their door. Where they scared of passenger? Dude looks harmless.

At the VERY LEAST hes gotta be fired over gross negligence.

Ive driven for Uber and Im sure that at the NEXT passenger they picked up he mustve become aware. Probably decided to ditch him right there so he could keep making money.
