Glad the cat was found. I hope some kind legal action is taken against the driver.

Lyft sending out a team to search and they were the ones to find the cat makes me think this.

So whoever did it (likely the driver) had taken her out of her carrier.

Or a random person saw the cat in the carrier wherever he left it and let her out.

Yeah. Seems like most reasonable scenario is the driver dumped the cat in the carrier and a random person thought the cat was abandoned and let it out. Though I don't know why the driver dumped the car when he found it instead of just returning it. He had to have gotten the messages before the time he dumped it.

So glad the cat is ok!

I don't get it, even if the driver thought there was valuables in the bag and sped off.... soon as he saw it was a cat carrier, obviously there's no loot to be had. Doesn't it make more sense to play dumb and pretend it was just an accident and return the cat at that point? All dumping it by the roadside does is make you look more suspicious and open your actions up for scrutiny.

Im shocked that this had a happy ending. The owner must be relieved.

Do we know if the driver or another passenger took it out of the carrier? What kind of person would do that to someone elses pet?
We don't know yet. The driver claims they didn't even know about the cat which if true suggests a passenger stole it but there's good reason to doubt the driver's story.

Edit: there's also the tinfoil hat theory of this being a setup by Lyft. Unlikely but I'm cynical enough to feel like it has a nonzero chance of happening.

No other passenger reported seeing it, the drivers behavior was sus as fuck, and the cat was found like 3 minutes from the drop off location.

The driver fucking did it.

I hope that what people said about Trump making animal abuse a federal crime is true. This fuck needs to be punished harshly for what he did. Even though our legal system considers pets property, anyone who has had one knows that they are much more than that: they're furry little family members.

Wow, what a ride.
If the driver took off and realized the error, returning promptly it'd be one thing.

But it definitely sounds like like one of those "thinks it's a bag with valuables/electronics" or just a "I'm going to be cruel to a cat". Either way this would technically fall under theft of a cat/pet, and some degree of cruelty, at the very least. Both of which are illegal.

I would say I'm surprised by their actions, but I'm not... I'm more surprised the cat was found and intact.

Super glad the cat was found!

I can't see a scenario where another passenger did it. The only argument I could see is if someone wanted a free cat, then they realized it was sick, and then just dumped it somewhere.

I don't think this is what happened. The driver needs to be banned from the ride sharing apps and hopefully they can find evidence to implicate him.

Probably didn't want to go back because it'll be "awkward". So he figured that it'll be easier to dump the cat and hope that the passenger wouldn't go such lengths to get the cat back.

I don't know anything about the driver in question but not everyone \ every culture holds pets in such high regard. Would people be kicking off so much if it were a pet rat or tarantula? I doubt it. I say this as a cat person. I'd definitely go to the lengths the passenger did in this instance to get his cat back and I'm glad he did but it could genuinely be a case of the driver not really knowing how much of a big deal the cat was.

are you freaking kidding me? the driver knew exactly what he was doing and he's an animal abuser not too mention he knew the cat belong to someone, you don't just dump stuff that is left in your car

and yes we would because the spider or rat still belongs to someone also i wouldn't advice you to get a rat of the street and keep it as a pet due to health concerns but rat can make a good pet, they are very smart

Yes, people would still be upset regardless of the pet, it's still someone's pet.

And "the driver didn't really know how important the cat was" is an absolutely fucking laughable defense considering that the passenger tried to get his attention as he drove off, the destination was a vet, and that the passenger messaged him about the cat. Anybody with even the slightest critical thinking ability could put two and two together.

Even assuming he didn't realize how important the cat would be to the passenger...you don't just abandon an animal like that. Driver is scum, end of.

Yes, I'm trolling, because cats are known for being cooperative, not easily startled, and very good at responding to commands.

I'm sorry, but there are a lot of irresponsible pet owners too. It's just too easy to make the driver who was just doing his shitty job into the villain when it's just as likely this is one of those pet owners that demands everyone is responsible for taking care of the animal he is ultimately responsible for.

How did the cat get out of his care and supervision in the first place?
