If so was it exciting? Or boring and uneventful?

Yes. Only got selected once out of 8 times going down there.

Trial was lame. Just a simple resisting arrest.

Paid more for lunch than i made going down there for 2 days. But my work also paid me on top of the jury check, so it was a win overall.

Not everyone has a job that does that, so they should be paying more for jury duty AND free parking.

Yeah. It was mostly just boring. It was civil court rather than criminal. I was one of the first twelve chosen, of course, and neither party took issue with us twelve, so I got stuck listening to a dispute between a tenant and a landlord. I felt really bad for the tenant because she didn't have a lawyer. The judge had to repeatedly tell her to actually ask questions, she mostly just wanted to make statements about how she'd felt betrayed by landlords she thought were good people.

Both parties were in the wrong tbh. The landlord raised the rent and she refused to pay the increase and then later just stopped paying at all. They'd already been to court multiple times, one of which was dismissed on a technicality. It was kind of dumb, the landlord gave her an eviction notice of like 90 days or something, but the law said it has to be a thirty day eviction notice to be valid. Or something like that. Either way, she'd been living in the house for a year or so after multiple eviction notices and without paying rent.

At one point, her boyfriend stated that they'd start paying again once the landlord fixed a bunch of issues the house had. She shared pictures and wasn't lying about that; there was massive amounts of mold and fucked up places all over. We did ultimately agree that she did owe the money, but I did manage to point out a clause in the lease that forgave a month's rent for the security deposit or something like that, so I was able to save her $700 or so.

It was a three day thing, so I had to come back the next two days. The judge said that if you had been chosen already, you'd be sent to the bottom of the list and probably wouldn't be chosen again unless the jury selection went super hardcore. Luckily, that didn't happen. On the second day, the parties decided they were going to try for a last minute agreement outside of the court; the judge convinced them to just have a bench trial if that didn't work out so we weren't kept there all day for no reason. On the third day, other folks were selected.

It wasn't that bad tbh. Literally everyone said there'd be a ton of waiting, so I brought a couple of books, but there wasn't actually that much. That second day was really the only time we waited, probably because the two parties were speaking to each other. NC also needs to update its website because it made a very big deal about there being no phones or anything allowed inside the courthouse, but they didn't give a shit about that. Just that you weren't recording the trial or anything.

yeah, it was alright, though there was a number of things in my favor.
Court was close to home and work.
I also got paid for work still.
Co-workers were able to cover for me pretty well.
Didn't take much to just know almost everyone in the room was thinking the same thing, so there wasn't even any kind of cognitive burden involved. Defendant really just put in a wasted effort that made himself look worse. The trial ended early.

That was something of a mini-break all in all.

I've been called in at least ten times. Made it to voir dire at least six times. Ended up on three juries, but only one ran to completion (verdict). It's a major pain, but highly educational, not to mention a civic duty.

Got summoned once, but ended up catching the flu by coincidence. Had to go get tested to prove it, and it's the only time I've ever had the flu in my life.

Twice. Didn't make the first cut the first time, then I lied about bias when I almost did make it on the jury. That would've sucked.
