Oh look, more right wing lies amplified by Twitter/X. Must be a day that ends in Y.

My very first time being a lawyer was representing my roomate before the student disciplinary council for getting drunk and pulling a fire alarm in the dorm. He swore to me that he did not remember doing any such thing, and he was a buddy so I tried to help. But the school had him doing it on video, which they didnt reveal until during the hearing. So my career started 0-1, and I learned that being a lawyer was going to be hard. He got kicked out of the dorms but just moved into our fraternity house anyway. And I got a single for the rest of the year, which my future wife and I really appreciated!

He is still a good buddy to this day, and we laugh about this often. This took me right back to those days, even though I knew for sure that the lies would be explained once actual context was put in.

It was Politico that first reported this. It started initially with her. So far, I dont see any apologies from them yet.

That's not as bad as a pay raise, but the cost of living adjustment they give themselves while the federal minimum wage has remained stagnant since 2009 is still BS.

He totally did it to delay the vote and I'm all for it. Fuck the GOP for always making these votes last minute and they should suffer for it. The deficit is all bullshit and yet we are here every fucking time. It would suck to have a government shutdown for the workers, but this is the kind of dirty play the Democrats should be doing to fight against the GOP.

i get what you mean but we all know the DEMS will be ripped apart for doing that as shown numrous time they can't win damn if they do damn it they don't
remember the time house dems didn't give in to the GOP during the covid relief shutdown the media and people blamed them for not working with the GOP even tho the GOP had control of the house back then under trump and yet demanded that dem cross the party line and pass the shitty bill and it happened again during the house speaker circus

Congress hasn't passed a cost of living adjustment for themselves since 2009 either.
And the Senate version of the continuing resolution that was brought to the House floor had language in it that forbade Congress from doing it here. The House Republicans stripped that language from the bill and tried to rush it through.

That makes about as much sense as the conspiracy that Pelosi intentionally let Jan 6 happen to make Trump look bad.

Why would he delay a vote that was a massive W for the dems? Makes no fucking sense.

Usually if you go straight to authorities and admit you did a dumb thing, they are more willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Still best to go through with the investigation and have all the facts.

Hiding and lying is what republicans do. Instead of expelling George Santos they gave him a safe harbor and a finger wag for his inappropriate conduct and scandals.

It was the door that set it off. It would have been normally open on a weekday, but it was the weekend. Plus this:

https://www.twitter.com/MattGertz/status/1708458440325046623

They have the actual footage. It would have been posted by now, unless their security cameras were malfunctioning or it didnt show what the GOP wanted to show. And Bowman self reported himself.

I dont know how much validity there is to the claim (not much I suspect) but the conspiracy Ive seen being floated was that McCarthy called for the vote deliberately when Dems were not in the chamber, in an attempt to scuttle the bill and allow the shutdown (they needed Dems present to get the 2/3rds majority needed for that specific vote), while pinning the blame for the shutdown on the Democrats for not being there to vote for it. In which case, pulling the fire alarm to delay the vote could have been an intentional way of making sure the House Democrats had time to arrive, actually read the bill, and vote.

But yeah, I think the more likely explanation is the one Bowman gavehe was rushing over after the vote was called and couldnt figure out how the door alarm worked.

The cost of living adjustment is a pay raise by definition. The fact they do it yearly changes nothing and makes it no less significant than their failure to make a 'cost of living adjustment' for the minimum wage.
