A bunch of long time trolls have been slowly leaving over the years. It's not 2013 anymore.

I agree the trolls have been leaving, including self-proclaimed moderates who did nothing but spout unhinged, easily-debunked rhetoric and pick arguments with people, often going as far as gaslighting or reimagining the past. They can probably be found posting or raging somewhere that only lets you contribute if you're one of them, like certain flaired-user-only subreddits.

Like, buddy, if you want to challenge peoples' beliefs, bring factual evidence, not anecdotes and bias. If you only want to stir shit up and expect a lack of consequence, then the consequence is on you.

Some folks didn't like that. They left as a direct result. Others left too, of course, but this isn't about the countless posters and lurkers who've long since moved on with their lives. It's about those obvious ass-hats who realized they held no power here. So yes, they left to join whatever sea of fecal matter they belong to, where their power on a good day is that of a vocal pawn, and any other day just another number; just another drop.

Now it's just the true badasses left

That, and the number of users is low enough social boards now get cliques, so if you don't fit in, it's not worth it.

Reddit remains popular because of the partial anonymity, and also the torrent of replies, and the nesting feature, means you can skip a lot of the boring bits and go straight into the discussions you want to bother with, without the need to scroll through endless dull replies.

I like it because whenever I search oddly specific problems, I almost always find a subreddit where people are talking about that (or something close enough that it helps)
but the culture of reddit is kind of a drag. I feel the same about here, which is why I only come back every so often. It sucks because I either close my accounts or forget the login info, so I have to make a new one every time... I should've just kept my original account from 2007-2008ish..
Sometimes I don't know why I even post, cus of what RVallant said about cliques is true, no matter what I do here or anywhere I don't fit in, so sometimes I wonder why do I even post? Lol.. Oh well.

Reddit is probably one of the saddest excuse of social media online. It's only used because there are a lot of people and those people are too lazy to create community run forums. The only worst place for meaningful discussion is discord because it's not indexable and overrun by memes and frog posters.
GameFAQs is bad because of the disgusting amount of low quality posting. I mean it's low quality trolling puts even reddit to shame. I spend a large amount of my day (sadly) trolling /r/runescape and I know others who also spend a large mount of their day trolling /r/runescape and even then that manages to be higher quality trolling than the average politics shitposter does on GameFAQs.

Reddit is pretty good as a help forum, but not so good as a discussion forum, or basically what BucketCat said. All the big "discussion" subs on there just turn into recycling the same karma farming topics over and over

Yeah, I mostly agree. I like local city and niche hobby subreddits, but the big ones are all pretty annoying as hell.
