Board 8 > Umineko Replay (spoilers and sporadic)

This is not some in depth replay topic, just a place for my thoughts as they may appear if I need to ge them out. I'm already nearly done with Episode 2 afterall.

Probably the most fascinating story to experience a second time through I've ever encountered. Truly it's like an entirely different game.

Rosa is still one of my most hated characters of all time and I know I haven't ever scratched the surface of how bad she's gonna get.

I would pay for umineko the abridged version.

I'm sure doing it a second time would be interesting but 100+ hours was too long the first time around

I've been away from my laptop for the least 40 minutes and I've just been bouncing the two PS3 openings back and forth for about 2/3rds of that time.

I'm torn. It's ridiculously verbose, but I never feel like it doesn't enhance the vibe. If stuff was missing I would feel it.

Fata Morgana is a much more succinct script and is my personal competition for the top spot, but they're going for completely different things.

Also I would riot if I missed even one line of Beatrice's VA belting out a "BATTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLUH!"

I've read the entire series like... at least 10 times lmao

Some scenes are so much more drastic in my memory than in reality.

Kanon fighting the goat butler is burned into my memory as me losing my MIND in the original topic for half an hour.

But it's actually like 5 minutes.

I rememeber this ending scene with Rosa and Maria being rad and thinking maybe Rosa had potential afterall.

Of course the entire post credits is fake and the last thing Rosa did before blowing up on this Board was desperately try to smuggle out a bar of gold while smacking her daughter.

Lots of excellent backbone is established in episode 2 but I probably still rank this one last of the 8.

God I actually loved Rosa being tortured in this tea party, lol.

Having not yet played Higurashi and having not seen the anime since High-school, I spent almost all of Umineko thinking Lambda was a Satoko expy.

Oh, no I meant at the time. I have definitely played Higurashi now. And Ciconia! And Iwahime.

Haven't played those PS2 exclusive Higurashi arcs still though.

Iwaihime (spelled it wrong before, whoops) is on PS4 even, amazingly. We have THIS on US consoles but not Umineko or Higurashi, tragic.

Not to say it isn't good, I liked it a lot, but it's definitely one of those "Ryukishi07 contract work for someone else" things, or at least it feels like that mainly because it's way too short for something he'd lead lol.

Loopers is also in the exact same boat, but I haven't played that one yet.

I really hope Silent Hill f is R07 unhinged.

Is any of the higurashi after Kai any good? Watched the anime decades ago and I know they kept pumping out stuff but it seemed kind of silly because it was over

Not really.

I do have a soft spot for the new Higurashi anime because of, uh.....stuff.

But I can't say it's actually good.

Though again, my blindspot is the PS2 arcs.

I've only read the Visual Novel version but Higurashi Rei (the main story part of it anyways; one of the side stories included was kinda bad), while not strictly necessary, felt like a solid, comparatively short +1 cap to the main 8 parts. It was written by Ryukishi shortly after Matsuribayashi and before Umineko so it'd be more fitting to count it with old Higurashi rather than the stuff that happened later.

I mixed up Rei with Kaku for a second and was very confused.

Im not a fan of Higurashi post-Kai (with the exception of Reis main story, as stated).

The sequel anime from a couple years back especially was putrid and absolutely ruined the story and characters imo

God it hasn't even started and already I'm reminded at how Eva Beatrice is the best. Big surprise.

But no it's not actually good lol. I couldn't even force myself to watch the parts of the second half that went back over the first half. Skipped straight to the last arc when that shit started up.

Looks like there's still no way to play the Saku content on PC outside of a Switch emulator, not that I'm anywhere near that point.

I did play Last Note of the Golden Witch as soon as it was translated in it's original form, but I was kind of hoping to get to play it with the console sprites and voices. Ah well.

Was looking for some sprites and got jump scared by the Steam sprites for the first time in a while.

God these are fucking hideous. I feel bad for anybody who experienced the game that way.

Wifebolo is playing with the OGs. She's a keeper.

(she does switch back and forth every time there's a new sprite to see the equivalent tho)

OG sprites have a ton of charm. Also helps you appreciate Ciconia that much more. Would not switch off Console sprites for anything but I get plenty of the original from the mountain of Umineko memes, especially with this time of year (we're on day 2 of the Rokkenjima Massacre baybeeeeee).

Steam sprites look like a 2000's Hentai OVA.

I would love to get into Ciconia, even bought it, just never played it for one reason or another.
But it just feels like a waste to play it now that its on indefinite hiatus :\

Even as a standalone game it's still fantastic. It's also like 40 hours long.

Even if part 2 never comes out I don't regret playing it at all.

My hope is that once he's done with this Silent Hill thing he'll be back in full force.

Ciconia is poised to become my fave of the series if it ever continues

It's a bit awkward in Episode 3 because it comes out of nowhere then goes away, and doesn't actually take the absurdity far enough. The scene still lands because we get the Kyrie insanity art.

But in episode 4 when it's completely off the rails with boxer Krauss and the Goat's white flag statements, interspersed with Jessica and George's fights and Mortal Stampede playing through the entire thing, it's fucking peak.

Bumping this for safety, had to pause for a bit but starting back up soon.

I am trying to very carefully guide him away l, but my friend who just started playing 2 days ago and is a bit into episode 2 is already calling Shanon and Kanon's dialogue between eachother suspicious and I can't handle it.

He has thankfully been totally derailed on those thoughts by Beatrice suddenly appearing.

OK he's now shipping Beatrice and Shanon on top of having already been shipping Kanon with Battler and there's literally no way to react to any of that.

Man wow this entire fucking sequence really makes Shannon's involvement super obvious. Like, hindsight is 20/20, the game was intentionally laying the fantasy on thick here, but if you're going out of your way not to believe.....

Also just using the window that Eva has been using. Revealing so many critical hints to you under the guide of Beatrice trying to soften up Battler.
