I used to have to deal with that on my left toe every couple months or so. It would grow back enough that it'd start cutting in so I'd have to rip it out. Then one day I smashed my toe, dropped a cannon ball on it, a month later the toenail finally came off and it regrew properly and no more ingrown since :D

Not all of it, was ingrown on bottom corner. So cut a sliver straight down then pried pried out the ingrown part and ripped it out.

I had that problem chronically. Eventually they did something that caused the nail to not grow back fully widthwise which resolved the problem. It looks normal still just not as wide.

I hated having it done though, the first time they tried to inject the local anesthetic in I reflexively kicked the syringe out of the doctor's hand.

Apparently if the nail is loose enough or dead, it won't. There be another nail growing that would of made the nail fall out naturally.
Or at least it should, though if the nail is crushed/damaged it will infuse with dead nail, at it will take a long time for the nail to grow. If you do nothing about it, it could stay like that for years.

At least that's how it was for me.

It could be different for someone else as ingrown toenails can get bad if you let become bad... Like a surgical operation at that point would be needed if the doctor realizes they need to split open the sides of your toe and stuff to get the malformed nail out

I had to have surgery for an ingrown toenail before and the result is that my toenail is now a rectangle. It was disgusting (I watched some and my brother watched the entire thing). In the corner, it grows a splintered off toenail that I have to rip out a few times per year. Thankfully, I really did a number on it last time and it actually doesnt seem to be growing

With antibiotics? I remember an infected one that got super swollen and unimaginably tender. A week of antibiotics was needed before a scalpel or knife would be allowed in the same postcode as that toe.

Now its squared off so I keep up clipping it I should be fine. I bought a set of tools that is everything a podiatrist has.

I have to do this once every 2-3 months. No matter how accurately I trim and take care of my toenails, my left big toe will be ingrown in a few months no matter what.

Having no health insurance I have done some incredibly stupid shit to fix it. The last time I did;

1: Toothpick all the way into the nailbed lodged at an angle to "lift" the nail
2: Dremel or razor to cut the edge of the nail off/out
3: Blood in all directions and excrucating pain for hours.

This was while it was right and proper stabbing into my toe itself and was swollen to like 2x the size on the edge. I don't know how I didn't pass out.

i had ingrown toenail surgery when i was in the 12th grade. The shit was so disgusting prior to that. All filled with puss and blood, my socks were stained every day by the time i got home from school.
