The FCC is planing to reintroduce Net Neutrality rules, and someone in the comments section of an article about it provided this gem. Apparently the FCC had made rules regarding internet privacy and Congress struck them down back in 2017. Supposedly that means the FCC can't restore those without another act of Congress, which we undoubtedly will never get. Somehow I missed hearing about this back in the day.

You might want to remember this come election season. I can't personally do much more than get the word out, because I live in a Republican controlled district whose representative only wants to talk about the border crisis and the Biden crime family.

So in other words, you better hope they are not tracking down your porn or blog posts or something.

So did anything actually change when Net Neutrality was stopped?

That's why I was arguing so much about it back then.

Your internet isn't as good and cheap as it should be and your information is for sale. I mean, it was always for sale, really, so I guess that's moot.

ISPs also block sites now. Verizon blocks a few which can't be named on here.

They may even keep you from seeing all the big titties you otherwise would've seen.

What?! But the sense of anonymity and separation from real consequences are what let me be my true, terrible self!

I contest this: We have privacy in the sense of raw numbers and cost effectiveness. Privacy in the way that fish lay a million eggs, and so the individual is less likely to be harmed.

It's easy to confuse anonymity with privacy, but they're not quite the same thing.
