That definitely won't be happening.

I feel you.

I tried watching the anime several times and couldn't get into it. But I thoroughly enjoyed the live-action version.

I love how the live action show does the little gag with the wanted poster every time they introduce someone new.

I thought for sure that would have been taken from the anime.

The anime adds a ton of filler and padding. The manga moves at a respectable pace.

Even though I've seen it all, I've started the anime from the beginning after watching the Netflix One Piece show. The Netflix show cut some important stuff due to budget, but they did a great job overall.

It has also been interesting to pick up on foreshadowing for things that happen way later in the series.

Unfortunately not but I enjoyed that bit as well.

Wanted Posters are a big deal in-universe but they aren't mentioned particularly frequently, even as new adversaries emerge. Probably something to do with there being hundreds (if not actually a thousand) named characters in the series, most of whom are affiliated with piracy.

plus quite a few characters only have their bounties revealed a gooooood while after their introductions. I mean it took until last year for us to finally see Mihawk's bounty

I've considered giving the anime another shot after thoroughly enjoying the live action, then I see clips/reels on Instagram and am reminded why I was turned off to it back in high school.

There are some beats that the anime/manga hit better than the live action. I think live action Usopp, for instance, was done dirty. Even in his arc, he never really got to show how good of a marksman he really was and him standing up for his friends wasn't really shown all that much in the live action. With that said, live action One Piece did manage to drag a lot of my casual friends into One Piece universe itself and I think the fact that the level of entry isn't so intimidating also helps as well. Also I like that the live action goes straight to the point (most likely because of budget and time constraint) while the anime has to constantly drag and pad things out in comparison. If you want the better One Piece experience, read the manga and watch the sakuga moments on youtube.

I honestly gave up on the anime 400ish episodes ago. The pacing was crawling and it just wasn't fun to get a 6 minute recap and maybe 15 minutes of the plot barely advancing for months on end.

Mind you, that was before they adopted all of the visually offensive nonsense during the Yonkou Saga arcs. They've turned it into a cheap DBZ parody with all of the unnecessary flashes and auras and crap and that stuff strains my eyes to watch.

I was a little worried about that but glad his bounty was "redacted" or whatever they said on his wanted poster in the live action so its still hidden.

I'm 100 episodes in and it's definitely a slog at times, but still enjoyable enough if you binge it. But yeah, the live action definitely cut a lot of bullshit from the East Blue arc for good reason.

I think the live-action's version of some things is definitely better than the anime's -- especially having the Kuro stuff be more of a killer-in-the-house sort of horror movie vibe, as opposed to everyone just standing on a hill taking turns fighting for 10 episodes.

And cutting all of the Strawhats' gags (esp Sanji's perviness) was definitely needed to make them work in live-action. Makes them more enjoyable characters overall, I'd say.

For sure. I also feel Sanji got ripped off at really showing his full connection to the Baratie and how far he would go to defend it by taking away the direct threat to the restaurant. I don't feel like like he has his full character arc there; yet overall he's a distinct improvement in a number of ways at least..

Yeah as a fan of the manga we just have to go with cuts but cutting the entire Krieg bit was harsh
..

I felt like having Arlong pose a threat to the restaurant made up for that pretty well.

what Anime needs to understand is that the current audience doesn't really care about long winded character arcs anymore. Japan really thinks they'll garner more anime fans with live action adaptations but it isn't happening. People like Live action because it's fast paced and gets to the point.

It's not even so much that it is "faster paced" (Which it is). It's that the stories are rewritten in a more cohesive and organic way. The Kuro stuff like Rharyx211 mentioned is soooo much better in the live action show because of how all the different plots are woven together.

I didn't, because he was just sort of there on a different task and then left. Nobody specifically came to steal the Baratie, nobody specifically held Zeff at gunpoint, Sanji didn't get emotionally pushed to the edge defending the place. We didn't see much of Patty and Carne wasn't even there, so we have less time to an idea of what life was like for Sanji as well; I also think Gin's dedication to Krieg vs Sanji's to Zeff was a parallel that wasn't explored at all. I would have liked that episode.

That all being said, the new scene with Arlong were as usual fun; different it may be, but what we get is never bad in and of itself. If the story has been this way from the start I wouldn't know what I'd been missing; But I also wouldn't have gotten enough Sanji focus to make him my favorite Straw Hat until around Thriller Bark when Brook shot to the top and Sanji's character really began to nose dive... but that's another topic.

Personally I wouldn't even go that far. I love the long wacky beach battle; it's just the horror movie feel mansion fight was also fun.

I actually do appreciate not entirely knowing what's going to happen in this second time I've watched the manga adapted, I'll give it that.
