I have an iPad, but couldnt use an iPhone until they allow me to do basic shit like sideload YouTube Premium alternatives and wirelessly transfer my FLAC music collection into the Music folder without going through iTunes and listening to it.

Started off as envy due to iPhones being a premium price but that hasnt been the case since the SE came out bringing the affordable iPhone experience to the masses.

Now its just a long-standing meme that people keep falling for and grasping at straws to justify.

I really dislike the Android interface, but I don't get the extent to which some people get hateboners over phone brands.

Androids are more customisable if you're a tech savvy type, and tech savvy customiser types have a greater concentration in these sorts of places.

Redditors and forum users are on average much more nerdy and tech savy than an average person. Iphones have great specs and technology in them, but Apple's closed off eco-system limits how you can use them.

Redditors are mostly millennials that act like boomers towards zoomers.

They're not even significantly different for probably 95% of people. Download the app from the store. Tap an icon to open the app. Virtual keyboard pops up and you type on it. Open the camera and tap the circle to take a picture. Hold your phone near the reader to pay electronically. Tap the notification to open whatever prompted it. And so on.

Eh, I switched from Android to Apple and while I appreciate a couple things on Apple more, its not a crazy amount. Some iPhone users are outright pretentious and wont admit that its anything more than brand consumption.

I switched because the last Samsung I got was crap and reviews favored Apple over Google at that time. I could switch back to Android next phone.

Try a brand like Oppo or Xiaomi next time you go Android. Most people will get just as much out of a upper-mid range phone from those brands as they would from a Samsung flagship, at less than half the price. Still Android so you can run all the same apps, outside of a couple of Samsung proprietary ones that will have alternatives.

I don't hate Apple. I just prefer Android. Always have.

The iPhone SEs are the most powerful phones for that price point and usually have the same SoC as the flagship of that year. The SoCs themselves are usually the best on the entire market for that year.

Objectively, the best deal you're getting nowadays is buying an iPhone SE for $400. No Android at that price is comparable.

That's great, until you need an accessory, or something breaks, or you need to do something slightly less basic than taking a picture, or you want to have actual control over how your phone works.

Apple products have extremely long shelf lives, stay supported for significantly longer than other brands, and have great resale value. I have an iPad from years ago that still works great and can run demanding games at 4K/120Hz. There are people with ridiculously old iPhones that still get major updates and still run just fine.

Also like a previous post mentioned, if you go with the cheapest, lowest-end iPhone model, you're literally getting flagship specs but in a "classic" form factor for half the cost of the newest standard model.

Its basically the console wars all over again. They are told only losers are hardcore into console wars but nobody calls them out for being hardcore into phone wars

Android OEMs offer more bleeding edge tech. Simple as that.

Samsung for example is now on its 5th generation of foldable devices. Meantime, the iPhone has just now added USB-C.

My point to that poster was that you're obviously not getting ripped off like they were saying.

Apple and/or iphones get a bad rep cause their fans are the exact definition of being a sheep or the "clueless consumer". They make posts about how bad their life is when they don't get an iphone for their birthday, talks down on android and all other phones like their iphone is the only thing worthy.

The worst thing is, apple makes phones like any other companies but people just acting stupid and thinks iphones are the greatest tech or something. That's far from it, iphones are actually very stale and slow when it comes to putting new features or tech innovations on their phones. But people will still line up and pay extra $400 for a new bag that holds the phone on a toilet seat. It's like that friend you got who thinks they're smart and always talks loud and makes sure your other friends knows he's smart, but in reality everyone knows he's a tool.

Its more justified now than it used to be because of their custom silicon, and every other manufacturer have copied the Apple pricing now, but theyre still selling you a phone for over 4 times what it cost them to manufacture it, which is a ripoff by any definition.

It will however be future proofed much better and have the power of the latest flagship.

To do what? The display, charging tech, battery and cameras are a decade old. A Porsche engine in a Corolla body doesn't mean you can lap the Nurburgring.

Besides, nobody looking for a budget device cares what processor is in it.

Millions buy budget phones daily and it's not just grandmas. If your apps and games continue to work for years to come, and at the same performance as whatever iPhone that year was, then you have made a solid choice.

Im talking about their flagships. Nobody thinks of their budget options when thinking of Apple. They started the trend of selling a phone that cost $200-300 to manufacture for $1200+. Deal with it.

Can you give me a break down of the iPhone 14 cost to manufacture, along with the S23 and the Pixel 7?

The Poco f5 phones are the best bang for buck budget phones.

For the average phone user I'd say Apple is the better product. If you mostly do basic stuff like phone calls, texting, web browsing, video watching, mobile gaming, etc. an iPhone will do that just as well as any Android phone while also having longer software support and a more cohesive ecosystem. Plus better resale value if you want to upgrade. Having used both recently (went from an iPhone 13 Mini to a Pixel 7) I'd also say iPhones are a little less glitchy.
