Sexy character models, sure/maybe. Actually sexual content though? I think western AAA games are generally more accepting of nudity and sex than AAA Japanese games, who like teasing and blue balling the players instead. Also, the west has quite a few erotic games now on Steam and other sources, if you want those types of "games" (though a lot are just VNs).

The funny thing is, a lot of those western games are just emulating anime-style (or lifting Koikatsu/Honey Select models wholesale), but adding in the porn. And usually not very well, at that.

Sex sells. People refuse to put this into practice, but there's multiple franchises that have benefit from this.

Atomic Heart sold as well as it did because of the Twins, which got people interested in the game. Which gave the game the sales it needed to get it a sequel.

Nier Automata pulled people in with 2B, which got people interested and Automata almost outsold FFXV and boosted up Nier from an older game series that no one really played to what it is now.

I can include countless mobile gacha games like Genshin Impact and the like here that sell both attractive men AND attractive women.

So I agree. I don't think it needs to be Dead or Alive volleyball or something, but, if anything, shying away from TnA just ensures no one is gonna keep an eye on a game. Especially when the western market refuses to capitalize on the concept. Feels like an easy marketing strategy.

You are taking the best examples of Western games, and comparing them to the worst examples of Japanese games.

Both cultures create games with more intimate sex scenes that only occur after making significant strides in relationship with a character. Both cultures also create fanservicy smut. It really depends on the game, and I don't think it's fair to act like western games are generally more "mature" (while hand waving examples like God of War), and acting like Japanese games are only fanservice (when there's plenty of examples that run counter to that, like a ton of VNs).

Yeah, but you're allowed to play those types of games. I'm pretty sure the main reason why these games don't typically release in the US is that they simply don't sell very well.

Also, there are plenty of Japanese games that haven't been released in the US for various reasons. That doesn't mean they're illegal to own or acquire by other means.

And just fyi... maybe it's a good thing people look down on "you" for playing these games. For one simple reason...

Have you ever played a Senran Kagura game? They have very engaging combat. Try Estival Versus. You have something like 25 characters that all play differently so you can do whatever you want.

The fanservice aspect of it is also pretty impressive with the amount of costumes and customizing you can do.

Also, Daidouji is best girl.

I like my sexy games as much as anyone else and I do think Western culture is weird about sexuality but imo it's not as bad as all that. I can play sexy games on my Switch. I never would've thought that possible 10 years ago. Would I like more sexy games on my Switch? Sure but you can't have everything.

It's because a lot of the games that are fanservice heavy usually make their characters look like children. That's the issue.

fanservice doesn't have a place in videogames. games have always been hypersexualized. it's good that modern games have been toning down on fanservice to make sexual content a bit more tasteful.

Last of Us is fine because it involved adult looking characters. Fanservice in anime games will always be problematic because no matter how old the character is the art style makes the characters look like children.

Senran has:
-one loli (Mirai)
-one oppai loli (Kafuru, who actually looks normal compared to the rest, just short)
-at least one character with the mentality of a baby (Minori has the theme, Hanabi is actually just that dumb, both are still curvy as hell)

The remaining ~25 members of the cast are standard high-schoolers, who most people would not actually have issue sexualizing, unless Sailor Moon is too prude for them or something.

You don't need to look at this from an extreme perspective. There are numerous of games that wouldn't even be touched if it didn't have a little TnA in it, the biggest example would be Nier Automata which probably would've been a forgotten game if it weren't for 2B being "sexualized" but it also helped that the game was fucking terrific. Which I think points to why some of these "fanservice" games like DoA and even that SNK Heroine game just don't get the recognition they deserve...because they're crappy games. Look at how many MK knock offs there were in the 80's and 90's that try to capitalize on the ultra violence/gore thing and are basically forgotten while MK is still culturally relevant in this day of age.

All I gotta say is, if you want "sexy" video games to be more accepting, just concentrate on making them good instead of making them bad and they'll correctly get recognition. Bayonetta would never be talked about if she was in a mediocre action game. This is why SNK Heroine disappointed me because they already had a great game mechanic from KoF14 and instead of making a fighter, they made a button masher that pleased no one (and that's why it bombed hard).

I don't know about the Pedo angle, but to be honest any fighting game that doesn't have a "3-D" aesthetic and isn't from a well known IP won't get the recognition it deserves. Plus, it doesn't help that both games you mention come from an anime "waifu" culture that while is played for laughs here in the west as a meme, is taken a little bit more serious in some East Asian countries like Korea and Japan.

I wouldn't mind that if said game was hardcore enough to earn an AO rating. That said I just watch hentai when I want to fappy. I play fanservice games because I like fanservice but both my hands are on the controls. It's a bit like violence in video games, I like some violence but I wouldn't play something like Mortal Kombat as that's too violent for me.

Part of what separates sex appeal in "legitimate" media over sex appeal in porn is that it isn't only defined by sex. There's a lot more going on and, incidentally, there's a little bit of the fun stuff.

I haven't played any of the hentai Sims on steam, but I would be willing to bet they're a lot worse as games than something like the Witcher series or BG3 or ME, games that fully embracE the horny nature of gamers.

Those games are widely praised too. The only "sexiness" in BG3 that ever gets called out as weird is fucking someone transformed into a bear.

I love the Senran Kagura series, and my friend says that Peach Beach Splash is actually really good despite it having a silly concept. I take his word on that since he's the one that likes shooters; I prefer action/fighters. I actually have the game, although I haven't even opened it lol
