It probably ruined Cuphead for someone who didn't know about the easy mode difference, though I guess that's a rather specific situation.

It ruined many games, quite a few didn't even let you finish the game on easy or even medium difficulty.

There are plenty of games with really shitty easy modes that are a complete waste of developer and player time. While they don't "ruin" the game, they aren't exactly a positive for them either.

I prefer a Godmode. It's easier to play a game in Godmode than on easy mode.

Easy mode ruined Shadows of the damned, it was required for platinum and normal difficulty didn't count .

Like you can fight everyone up to the end of Inkwell 3, but they won't give you what you need to go to the last area.

I dont actually remember, and its surprisingly hard to look for on Google.

The guy just posted a video of him winning fights by pressing one button repeatedly without changing his rhythm while eating something as a way to mock it, and others pointed out that he was in an assist mode. I think it was for a DC game that came out in the last year.

If a game sucks without difficulty, it was a bad game to begin with.

I disagree. Some of them became boring as hell.

Diablo 3 was a mindless idle game on regular difficulty and you had to finish it before unlocking harder modes

Not every game is for every person. Like, if you want to play an easier game, play an easier game. There are plenty of fun, easy games, like all of the kirby games. There is no shame in that.

I honestly don't like difficulty settings in general. Games that have a ton of difficulty settings tend to have less polish, because all of a sudden you have to have your testers play the game three times to make sure it is balanced on all settings.

You are vastly over exaggerating how much time and money goes into creating an easier difficulty.

No matter how it's sliced, it's literally video game elitist seeking validation they beat a video game. Johnny down the block beating the game on easy mode should not affect your experience playing the game on hard mode.

This right here is what I mean.

You claim you don't care, but literally in the same breath express yes, you do actually care.

You do literally care if Johnny down the street beats a single player game on an easier difficulty than you did. Johnny playing on an easier difficulty doesn't actually harm anything but your ego.

The "anesthetic" or whatever flowery words we want to call it is at its core value based on, what you did on the game because of the hard difficulty that cant be changed. The option to make it easier, hurts that.

Elitist can claim it isn't about ego, but at the end of the day it most definitely is if the appeal is lost just because an option of easier difficulty is in place.

easy mode results in funny reviews when game journalists are still unable to play the game or find it too easy when using it

that being said, more accessible games are good. The more people that -can- play something, the more successful it is, the more likely we are to get more like it or better games in the same vein

Hot take: It would be perfectly fine whether or not a future Souls game added an easy mode.

I get it for competitive 1v1 games that simplifying things kind of ruins it, but not exactly with like Souls games. I know for most people the investment and the payoff is the reward, but I get the feeling for most people talking about Souls games its just FOMO and they just hate time investments and the concept of mindful practice (because of instant gratification). You're allowed to want instant gratification, but you just kinda seem like a reward glutton.

It can definitely take away from the point of the game. For Souls, it's literally a genre at this point. It's like arguing that all Roguelikes should allow for progression and saving. Some developers have added difficulty levels or means of permanently getting stronger, but the majority seem to stick to the letter.

Soul games should brick themselves upon player death. Let losing have true consequence. All this "unlimited lives" bullshit is what's ruining true hardcore gaming.

I have nothing against developers making a game difficult by design and not include easier modes if that's the creative direction they want to go with it and fill that particular niche. That's perfectly fine.

With that said, FromSoft fans are some of the biggest drama queens in the world when it comes to defending these games lmao. They talk about how, "It would ruin the game!," and "it would be too much for their servers!," etc. Then again, these are the same people that would argue tooth-and-nail about the lack of a pause button.

Sifu, another game that was defined by its difficulty, ended up adding an easy mode in an update and guess what? That game wasn't "ruined" as a result of it. It just opened the door for more people to play it.
Stop coming up with these whack-ass elitist explanations and just leave it at, "The developers simply don't want to add an Easy mode," which again, is totally fine.

You are more than welcome to present the many complaints of people NOT wanting a hard difficulty option in Kirby or Pokmon.

I wouldn't be on their side either, but still, go for it. I'd say the same thing to them. A more difficult option isn't going to kill your ability to enjoy Pokmon on easy mode.
