i was in discord with one of my friends, playing FFXIV.

one of their friends hopped in, started streaming Starfield to the server (he just bought it).

they go through character creation for literally an hour (this is normal for this person, he spent 3 hours in Code Vein and Dark Souls 3. he really likes to spend time on character creation)

he gets to the part where they name the character and immediately goes "what the fuck is this pronoun shit? why?" and gets legitimately angry about "wokeness"

i responded with "it's an optional thing and it defaults to whatever you picked for your body type. why is this worth getting upset over?"

and he fucking loses it on me. i just left the call and the server.

on that note, i think i need to find a new friend group but i don't know how to make friends.

like, i knew that some people in the server had some issues, but that's the first time i've been slapped in the face with them.

over a NON ISSUE

The "he" who get bothered by it show signs of being a "they" since that's a clear sign of PMS over a non issue

Making friends is hard. I am sorry. Ever since I moved to this new area and became a shutin meeting people have been hard so I feel your pain. Anymore... it is crazy. This dude cares so much about making his character just right. But gets upset that can have pronouns .

From my experience, these are the same people who've spent years saying that millennials and then gen Z don't know "how to adult."

It's always projection.

Like, if I could somehow snatch up my 15 year old self, largely ignorant of transgender issues, and get him to play this game, he wouldn't be raging about the pronouns, he'd just think, "Huh, so that's a thing in the time/world this game is set in."

Yeah, moving 6 years ago across the country kinda fucked me in the friend department. i still haven't really made any IRL friends. just one from work that i don't see much anymore because of my medical leave.

It's not the first time i've had pronouns brought up, but the last time i just went "why can't you call people what they prefer? Like how does doing that cause you harm in any way?" and the other guy was like... "yeah I guess." and never brought it up again.

Yep, had a really close friend in highschool that acted similarly like this. At a reunion someone brought up their pronouns as part of our introductions to each other and he went "I don't want to sound transphobic, but this whole pronoun thing is just so unnecessary." I, well tried, to jokingly/light manor way bring up that his first name is "Abigail" but he prefers to be called "Jaycee". He then says, "Dude, it's not the fucking same. I hate it when woke ass SJW's bring up that shit. You're not born with a name, but you are born with a pronoun. It's just so fucking stupid." We obviously pivoted away from that conversation to avoid it getting anymore awkward, but let's just say he became my ex-friend after that reunion.

Yeah, have a friend like that. Suddenly developed the attitude too, getting really irritating.

I mean, they've been trained to do this just like dogs were trained to salivate when they hear a bell. To a certain degree, you have to feel sorry for people like this even if they are terrible people.
