Solutions for nonexistent problems

I'm so lucky I went to school in much simpler times. It's so damn complicated for no reason now.

Should it be allowed? Sure. Free speech and assembly and what not.

However, like all others like this, they should be counted as absent and face whatever punitive actions that may arise from the school for their absence (if there would be any). I believe it's fair to treat all of these protests/walkouts/etc. the same way.

No one in their right mind should be saying they shouldn't be allowed to protest. The more important question is whether or not you agree with purpose of the protest

The only thing more complicated now is that kids are getting shot up and republicans are either cheering it on or trying to turn the schools into prisons, but not doing anything effective that ACTUALLY makes the children safe and makes them simultaneously feel safe.

I wouldn't have found this particular issue "complicated" if it had arisen back then, because I went to the restroom to use the facilities, not to peer over the stall to see what other people are doing or what's in their pants.

Back in my day we were taught not to worry about how others live their life as long as they're not hurting someone.

Really shows you how far we've fallen as a people. These people are more worried about a person using only a certain bathroom but not something to actually keep people safe.

These same people call other people fear mongers and such.

I seriously wonder what conservatives think happens in women's bathrooms.

Also it's always women's bathrooms. Like, what about men's bathrooms? Why do we not flip out about trans men using men's bathrooms?

All I'm saying is that when I was in high school, there are definitely some dudes who would have abused this rule and creeped on some ladies.

Recycling the same hateful rhetoric used against minorities in the past for racial segregation, homophobic policy/law, etc. They claim to protect women and children, while doing the exact opposite in reality.

Republicans are telling women that women must want trans men in the restroom. This is what that looks like.

Of course, if we're being honest, republicans don't really want this situation, either. They just know that the pictured situation will make trans people in general less safe and lead to more violence and trouble for them. That's a short term goal. The long term goal is for trans people to be labeled as non-people and eradicated, either through state-sanctioned murder or through how they handled homosexual people back in the 50's, by locking them up and lobotomizing them. You're not going to be saying you're transgender if you're a vegetable.

The Right doesn't change and they sure don't become more compassionate. These were their solutions back in the day and it's what they still want.

It's also laughable when they pretend to be looking out for the safety of women here, considering their recent actions to try to get more women needlessly killed regarding abortion legislation (i.e. making it illegal to treat ectopic pregnancies.)

Conservatives don't want trans women using the men's bathroom either. They want them to just die.

Because conservatives only care about penises being somewhere they believe they shouldn't be. The sexism structure they view the world through means men (who they will view anyone born with a penis as regardless of if they are) are constantly looking for an opportunity to sexually assault anyone they can, and the men who actually are like that are often conservatives projecting it onto everyone.

I guess the only solution at this point is to make every bathroom one big room with nothing but private stalls that have no open over/under. Just a big bathroom with lots of little bathrooms within it to stop everyone from getting so upset. Or just put fucking portapotties everywhere.

It's A solution, not the only one.

An alternative would be tell republicans to grow the fuck up and get over it, but the powers that be tell us that would be unkind and might hurt their feelings. The powers that be don't seem to be quite so concerned about the people that republicans are calling for genocide against, unfortunately.

That's not a justifiable reason to violate civil rights and oppress vulnerable minorities. The notion that allowing trans people to use the bathroom will endanger people is false.

Make a third "family" bathroom that they can all go in together.

I'm so not a political person, I don't give a shit about the right any more than I do the left. But surely there are bigger issues to fuss over.

The only way this matter will ever be solved in a way everyone (or at least, everyone that matters) will be happy with, is making all bathrooms single-user and gender neutral.

And heck, I wouldn't mind that happening. I don't particularly want anyone listening to me taking a shit; whether they're male or female, whether they're cis or trans.

No, but I'm not sure just letting anyone walk into any restroom is the solution either, especially at high school age. The best solution is gender neutral restrooms alongside sex specific, but that costs $$$ many school districts don't have.

The problem with this though is it continues painting trans individuals as predators that go to the gender they identify as bathroom specifically to be predatory.
