Howard Stern and Bill Maher are on the outs. On Tuesdays episode of The Howard Stern Show, the 69-year-old radio personality revealed that things between him and the political commentator were tense after Maher, 67, made comments about his marriage. The remarks were made on an episode of Maher's Club Random podcast, where he criticized Stern for outwardly expressing his love for his wife of nearly 15 years, Beth Stern, and alluded that his comments were at the detriment of his first wife, Alison Berns. "How does this gushing about the second wife how does that make the first wife feel? Could we just not gush about the person while the other person can still hear it?" the Real Time with Bill Maher host asked. Stern and Berns tied the knot in 1978, but separated in 2000 and finalized their divorce in 2001. He and Beth, an animal rights activist, began dating shortly after meeting at a dinner party in 2000 and tied the knot in 2008. They've been together ever since.

The media personality didnt take kindly to Mahers unwarranted comments about his relationships and claimed on Tuesdays episode of The Howard Stern Show that he ought to shut his mouth. "What a sexist thing to say! Like, what a convoluted, nutty thing to say," Stern said, firing back. "Its assuming that he knows something about my first marriage. That, of course, the man must be leaving the woman and the woman must be devastated and be sitting around pining away for her famous man." He continued, "He ought to shut his mouth! I mean, I dont think I come on the air every day and say, 'I love my wife.' But I thought it was a pretty positive message, to especially with my audience to say to guys: 'Instead of like ragging on our wives, how about talking about that we appreciate them and love them?'" Arguing that Maher seemed very worried about my relationship, Stern revealed that he reached out to him via email and asked him to be honest about his opinions about his life. I wrote in an email, I said, 'Why dont you give me a phone call? Why dont you tell me what you think about my life and my marriage since youre, you know.' But of course, he never wrote me back," the America's Got Talent alum claimed. "I think Im no longer friends with him," he added.

I dunno how Maher still have fans. The dude is a fickle bandwagoner to get clicks.

Unless Stern constantly keeps saying he loves his wife to a super annoying level, it's insane to complain about. "He loves his wife! What an asshole!". Then again, it's Maher, who seems to have an issue with marriage in general. Bringing up Stern's ex wife is really weird, unless she and Maher are friends or something.

I imagine now it's a mix of privileged "moderate liberals" like him and some "centrists" and conservatives. I bet any liberals/leftists that were fans in the past dropped him over the years. I sure have.

This. I wouldn't say I was ever a fan, but I did watch his show every once and a while and occasionally looked at his final "New Rule" segment.

That said, the past what was it 6 years(?) he's been going off the rails with things like his woke hysteria.

He is truly a paragon of righteousness.

Never a fan of either, but Stern's marriage AFAIK isn't any of Maher's business. Stern should look in the mirror if he's concerned about sexism though, since thirstycasting has been his schtick forever. Let them fight.

He actually isn't anymore. He has a show on Sirius XM. If you listen to his celebrity interviews like with musicians, they're amazing. He talks to them for hours and really gets them to be comfortable and open up about their lives and asks them real questions and establishes great cameraderie. I'm a Pearl Jam fan and watched his interview with Eddie Vedder and it was wonderful. You can tell Eddie is a bit guarded at first, but Howard gets him comfortable and he really starts sharing personal details about his life that I didn't know. He also played some songs on an acoustic guitar. It was awesome.

You really learn a lot about the guys through that.

Are those his views today though. If it is, then we should judge away. But if it isnt, we dont need to latch onto someones old beliefs for dear life. If the person has genuinely changed that should be welcomed.

Because people do evolve and we really need to get out of this habit of digging up old beliefs from a decade plus ago that doesn't reflect a person's beliefs today in the current year.

For example rewind almost 2 decades ago, and gay marriage wasn't as widely supported by the Democrat party. Obama for example was inaugurated 2008 anti gay marriage, and left 2016 a supporter.

People evolve, and gaining new allies isn't a bad thing.

No. He has gone full circle at this point and is like liberal cringe, soft, wanna be A lister, Howard.

He still doesnt leave his house because hes afraid of Covid and refuses to make jokes or talk about certain things if it upsets Hollywood elite.

Covid ruined him. I am a Sirius subscriber and used to love his show (even after Artie and ETM) but when they wont go back to the office his show jumped the shark. He should have retired instead of signing this new deal. He is doing exactly what he says other people should do and milking Sirius as long as he can instead of moving on but its not really funny and kind of blah at this point.

I feel like there's some people here who don't know the real story behind Stern & Sirius radio's most recent contract. He basically built that station and wanted to retire, Sirius offered him an obscene amount of money, more than any other radio host in history (I believe), just to stop him from retiring. The NYC Sirius tower is even called Stern Tower. He was totally fine walking away, but I'm sure most people here could be offered a price to not retire and it'd be far lower than they offered him. I don't know if that really shows his "greediness" since it was Sirius desperately trying to retain him and we all have our own price to stop us from retiring, I'd bet.

I had a similar thought.

I definitely respect Stern more as a person, however it feels a lot like the current Republican in-fighting in the House. They're both pieces of shit on subjects, one is just often an even bigger piece of shit.

I think a lot of people no longer see the importance of handling heavy shit face-to-face.

But also ending a friendship over text/email isn't the same as ending a relationship over one. More understandable in the former.
