I read that if you walk an hour a day then it may only last 6 months. I've never had a pair go beyond a year in recent memory. But I do walk 5 miles 2-4 days a week so maybe I need running shoes specifically.

I've had running shoes last 10 years, when used only for running. But my everyday Chucks barely last a year, and they're usually looking pretty worn by the time I replace them.

Just comes down to the quality of the produce, Chuck Taylors have been shit for years, so it doesn't surprise me, but any decent shoes should last a couple years. It can be tough to stomach paying $100+ for a pair of shoes, but they'll likely last a lot longer than something cheaper.

I recently got a pair of diadoras that I'm hoping will last awhile. First time trying the brand but they're so comfortable. Most of my sneakers don't last more than a year....

Nike Revolutions are sometimes only 40 bucks.

They are amazing for 500-1000 miles.

Depends on construction and probably era.

Glues and foams have gotten a bit better over the last decade, it seems.

Time will tell, but from a few examples I've had, fuse construction does come apart.

Knits don't unravel unless you subject them to a lot of abrasion

If you wanted to stretch life, imo a stitched midsole and leather upper is the way to go, and replace insoles along the way. A lot of sneakers run garbage open cell foam sockliners that do nothing but get squished in a few wears.

Also, don't drag your feet.

I have a pair of running shoes that I bought back in early April that I go running/walking in almost every day and I've already worn out a huge part of the sole on both feet.

It doesn't really matter how much you spend, if you wear/use running shoes a lot you will go through them like crazy.

A couple years? My guess is 3 tops.

Depends on the shoe and as someone above mentioned, how you walk. If you're a foot dragger, you're not gonna get that much longevity out of your shoes.

If your shoes are lasting significantly longer than that, you probably arent walking that much.

Hard disagree, I've had my shoes for 2 to 3 years now and I walk/run everywhere. I installed a padding in the toe area to prevent my big toes from making a hole through that fabric as has happened to me before, otherwise they're fine

For me, shoes can last anywhere between 3-6 months. I'm hard on my shoes and I only buy cheap ones, partially because the last time a friend talked me into getting some nice-looking shoes for like $50, they lasted just as long as the usual $20 ones I burn through.

I have had some shoes last longer, like I swear I had a pair that lasted for eight or so months between 2022 and 2023. But then recently, I got some shoes that lasted for like two months before disintegrating.

I've had sneakers last me for almost a decade with a lot of miles on them.
And I'm not a lightweight.

Anything under two years, even with daily use, means that the quality of that model is bad and you wasted your money.

Thats absolute bullshit. Ive gone through a lot of shoes in my lifetime, and some last better than others, but I average about 25-30k steps a day and if Im wearing a pair regularly, theres not a shoe on the planet that would last two years without breaking down.

I dont skimp on shoes. I have some pretty high end pairs. If you think they last that long I just dont believe that you dont live a significantly more sedantry lifestyle.

Vans was your mistake if youre using them to walk a lot.

Ive got a pair of some cheap Nikes that are 7 years old, been wearing them for probably 8 months 5 days a week for work and theyre still good. .Ive been wearing them off and on the whole time Ive had them, but pretty much daily the last 8 months.

I used to walk 16 miles a day at minimum, and I have had shoes last 6 months and pairs that barely made it 2 months. Average was about 3.

No, it's not bullshit.
There are obviously signs that they're worn out, but still perfectly fine and no structural damage.

I've got a pair of football (soccer, ugh) shoes that most definitely have 500 hours of play on them. Wear and tear, but they still support the foot like they're intended to. Others fell apart after like 100h.

From my experience, the more basic and lighter the sneaker, the longer it lasts. I'm referring to daily models here. Anything complex falls apart fairly soon.

Adidas has way more durability than Nike, at least the models I had.
And obviously quality leather lasts way longer than suade and canvas.

Also, climate where I live is as mild as it gets, if that means anything. As in no snow, ice, mud, whatever.

Okay yeah it's pretty obvious from this topic some people have very bad definitions of what "lasting" is lol.

I dont even walk and they tend to start falling apart on me (like a toe coming lose, or a flap loose on the bottom) within the first year.

my 'daily driver' shoes have been Merrell for the last decade or so. i get about 3-4 years out of a pair. i have a desk job, but i walk for 45m a day and play disc golf regularly (1-2 times a week). the last pair only got replaced because i totally wore down the heels.
