So does he get 50% of Miku's earnings now or what? How does that work?
Unfortunately, women in Japan can't get divorced unless the husband agrees to sign the papers. Thankfully, she's corporate property first and foremost, so they'll just use one of their many methods of "persuading" the husband.

At one time in most of our lifetimes the majority of people were outraged and incredulous about homosexuals wanting to get married. Now we are chagrined that this was ever the case.

20 years from now well shake our heads about topics like this (that are full of judgement and dismissal) too.
I somehow missed this post.

"Homosexuals", as you so eloquently put it, are living, breathing, and most importantly, consensual beings. Now if these fictional characters gain sentience, and can therefore consent, we can revisit this subject. But I'm afraid by then, Humans might become extinct once these fictional characters start wanting equal rights, and Humans refuse to give it to them.

Marriage is a legal contract between two consenting adults.

A fictional character cannot enter into a consensual contract.

This whole subject is complete nonsense

The lack of sentience argument used to dismiss this issue is pretty flimsy. We put fictional characters in relationships with each other all the time. Marge and Homer didnt give their consent to be married to each other for example. We arent hurting them in that case and we arent hurting them if a real human wants to marry one either. The only hurt we are causing is if we dismiss the real humans feelings as illegitimate.

Trust me, the character without sentience wont care. The only ones who are objecting are those who think they know better about how someone should find peace and happiness than they do.

Our government withheld these benefits to what were then non-traditional marriage partners for ages. It wasnt right. History will likely prove your attitude isnt right either.

Also, while its a separate issue, maybe its time we asked why all people who arent involved in the currently defined marriage parameters should be denied benefits others receive. Why should my single neighbor get less support from the state than me and my partner just because we decided traditional marriage made sense for us?

Have you seen Pleasantville? Or Westworld? Those characters couldn't give consent, and yet it was still wrong. As for Marge and Homer, they are a consensual couple within the confined of their world. Now if that Human were to isekai themselves into the fictional characters world, then there's a chance consent could be given.

And why should we give real life marriage benefits to a fake couple? We don't even do that for polygamous relationships, and they're real.

Why should marriage benefits exist at all? In essence, their very existence basically amounts to a singles tax. What makes the members of a married couple more valuable to society than a single person? Especially if they dont have kids.

Don't get me wrong. I'm perfectly fine with getting rid of marriage benefits. But if we have to have them, I'd rather they go to real people.

I found an interview with the guy on Youtube from half a year ago.
Dude's smiling and laughing the whole time. He says he's writing a guide on marrying 2D characters.

He actually got asked the "What if other people marry Miku" question. Answered saying that people have and that each is personalised, they have different numbers. Each person has to make up their own personality for the character.

On that we can agree, because if any government allows legal marriages where only one of the two people consents, well...we're fucked*

*I understand there are plenty of countries where this is already the case, but both people are still actually people

Then we can agree on that and disagree on the rest. With that said, please dont put words in my mouth like I said I am okay with unions where one party is forced into it despite their wishes. That is an abhorrent.

There is a big difference between being against something and just not caring because you dont actually exist and/or dont have any thoughts or feelings. The latter seems harmless. The former is, once again, abhorrent.

Humans dont like being kicked and kicking them is immoral, so kicking soccer balls is immoral too since they didnt give their consent to be kicked.

Thats essentially your argument here.

Look most of us have had a fleeting crush on fictional characters. I had a big puppy crush on MacGuyver and Gambit when I was younger. I don't care if people continue to do so, if it brings them comfort or helps scratch an itch. I do think marrying a character is taking things a little far. But whatever. It's not my life, as long as they're not hurting anyone by stalking actors and VAs.

I have two imaginary girlfriends.

One's a royal purple pillow named Ophelia and the other is conjured brunette named Mary.

Mary doesn't like Ophelia very well and I have her sometimes cuddle with Ophelia because they should get along.

Mary also gets tense when I refer to her as imaginary.

Despite my intent on them being respected as parts of me, I have no intention on making love to myself.

They are simply extensions of my psyche, as far as I am concerned.

I always made imaginary friends, even when I was very little.

It's just something I grew accustomed to doing and never stopped.

I don't think people will understand what I'm talking about, and I don't care.

I just want to present myself as having them in my life.
