To me the biggest problem with Square is they don't know who they're making games for, and they don't know how to reach an audience. That Avengers game that I barely knew about is being taken off digital stores soon. They're making some Splatoon ripoff for some reason, that lacks all the charm and energy and appeal of Splatoon. Forspoken exists. They saw some success with Octopath Traveler, which really wasn't a bad game at all, it was just super repetitive in its chapter structure. But now they're pushing that 2D/3D HD hybrid artstyle on everything, which is honestly not the most appealing looking style and I wish they would step away from it. They put on a show for FF16 before its launch where they had influencers and developers talk about how great and amazing FF16 is for 3 hours, and in that entire time they showed like 10 minutes of actual gameplay. It just screams to me that they aren't confident in what they made. And add to that that old school FF fans didn't want it because it doesn't look or play like FF. Young people didn't want it because it's FF and FF is for boomers. I love FF and I haven't played 16 yet. I played the demo, and the demo was okay. I'll probably pick it up eventually. But it just feels like Square as a whole is completely out of touch.
They are definitely very confused about their audience. I don't know what focus groups they are following but they need new ones. They spend big on games today don't have mass market appeal. Then get surprised over and over that repeating the same mistake over and over doesn't produce different results. I'm not certain how they stay alive either. Maybe they don't pay the devs much or something?

Oh yeah, I forgot about this point earlier. Square put out a Tactics Ogre remake last year. I literally didn't even know about it until yesterday. And I'm the target audience. That's how hard Square drops the ball.

It was really weird to see people hype up FF16. Like, I thought it was general consensus that FF hasn't been good in years.

Nah it's great. Suikoden was one of the first ones that did it and Eiyuden Chronicle will do it too.

Idk maybe it was just me, I just didn't like how all the textures in Octopath looked like they had vaseline smeared all over them.

FF16 isnt like the recent games in the series though, and weve known that for years, so this post made little to no sense.

No it didnt. Those are prerendered graphics, the same type of graphics FF7 and plenty of other PS1 rpgs used. What might be confusing you is that Saga Frontier used 2D sprite characters over prerendered environments. While FF7 used 3D polygonal characters over prerendered environments. Octopath uses voxel graphics, which is completely different, and I think it looks great. Voxels are 3D cubes, made to look like retro 2D graphics.

Not sure why someone said Suikoden has it either. Suikoden is just regular 2D graphics. Eiyuden Chronicle isnt voxel graphics either, I dont think. That one does sort of look more like Octopath, but with Eiyuden, I think its just regular 3D polygon graphics, but sometimes resembling 2D at parts.

Voxels, and why theyre cool:
