Types of Personal Data collected

  • Sensitive personal information, including drivers license number, national or state identification number, citizenship status, immigration status, race, national origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation, sexual activity, precise geolocation, health diagnosis data, and genetic information.
Business or commercial purposes for collection
  • To provide connected vehicle services that might utilize or rely on geolocation data, facilitate more targeted marketing, as well as for internal reporting and analytics purposes, and for other purposes in the ordinary course of employment or the provision of other services according to the terms that govern those programs.
Disclosed for a Business Purpose? Yes

Nissan, why do you need... any of this? And why would you need to provide (any of) this to business partners?

If it was strictly for internal analytics to understand who exactly is buying their vehicles and what accessibility or design changes they may want to implement or change, then whatever.

But why is any of this eligible to shared with businesses partners/for a business purpose?

In relation to the highlighted words, it's because:Women run a 42 percent increased relative risk of being in a motor vehicle accident when they're pregnant than when they're not.

And Car Manufacturers share data with Insurance companies: https://www.pymnts.com/commerce-connected/2021/selling-connected-car-data-is-booming-business-for-auto-insurers/

(I personally believe in very strict Data Protection, but unfortunately no one else in this world really does and will often sell theirs for the chance of a flash wallpaper, or the chance of jailing some nebulous criminal whom doesn't exist.)

Leverage. It is easy to assume a business would love to look a person up in their database if they turned out to be part of a union thing or major lawsuit.

Deep down, it is also why I don't get why job applications hide behind that "We hire regardless of your race, ethnicity, et cetera" when I already know they have ways to find out everything else.

I don't like to say "what about...?", but throwing shit at Nissan only is a bit unfair, since they (car companies) are all full of shit.

And there is more than enough to throw at everyone.

My friend was calling me a neo-luddite the other day because I refuse to talk to my car/phone/whatever. I was complaining about the big ass screen that is way worse than tactile buttons that was in my Altima rental.

Cars overall are way too over designed and there's too much unnecessary touchscreen tech in them. Then whenever a malfunction or error pops up the screen on the dash tells you to open up the fucking paper manual lol

Companies should have just stopped at being able to tell me where my tire PSI is. Like that's a decent, though not terribly necessary, feature.

I have 10 year old car and my wife's is 20 years old.
I need a new car soon, and looking at what's out there is so fucking annoying/depressing.
I DO NOT WANT "smart" anything, I don't give a shit about all this expensive tech you're cramming into the cars. I just want one that fucking works, gets good mileage*, and is a good price.
They keep shoving this shit down our throats b/c then they can mark up the price of the cars.

* I would like to get an electric car finally. But I don't drive much, so the "savings over time" isn't going to be a real thing for me. Seems like ALL the electric cars are loaded to the brim w/ unnecessary tech for the sake of seeming "futuristic" (or more likely...to inflate the MSRP), and it's making me gradually give up on it and just settle for another ICE sedan that gets 35+ mpg.

Eh, my Z is relatively low tech. Most it tracks is GPS which relies partly on DVD updates. There is a BT connection, but this is dated from like 2008.

Either way it's not getting much out of me, if anything.

There was a topic awhile back about how Smart TV makers were doing this. Samsung got sued for doing it. I experienced it on a LG TV. My brother was having teeth issues and was visiting another city 200+ miles away often. Started getting ads for a dentist office in that town. Thats more than just coincidence. No where in any menu or manual did I see anything talking about it
