Their price labeling system is actually pretty based when it comes to consumable goods because it shows how much you're paying per unit (the orange part), allowing you to compare the similar products in that section so you get the best value for the amount you're getting.

Is that not standard for most retailers? It definitely is here, the ones that don't are the odd ones out.

I didn't even know it was a thing until former roommates of mine who valued that pointed it out to me. There are times when something seems like a better deal because it's bigger and appears the better deal for the price, however you're actually paying more per unit than comparable products.

It depends on the product. For liquids it would be $ (usually cents) per ounce. No, it's not a law, it's left up to retailers.
