It's not really too different, just goes 55/45 on elections instead of 48/52. So hopefully Democrats can win or Republicans can be normal again, in my lifetime (ruining the state government, like Paxton getting off today)

I don't care about the petty high school football rivalries that Republicans and Democrats engage in. What I care about is that we have people in this nation, ever-increasing in power and influence, who believe that they are on the cusp of establishing a Fourth Reich. They think they can drive LGBTQ youth to suicide, impede women's rights, and systematically control the growth of Black populations by allowing police officers to commit sanctioned murders and unjustified incarcerations. If they were to gain total power, it is not hyperbolic to say that we may be looking at full-scale genocide or the return of race-based slavery in America.

If we could put an end to that for all time, yes, I truly believe that would be worth fighting for whatever the consequences.

I didn't say anything about starting a war.

You think the 1/6 terrorist wearing the "six million isn't enough" t-shirt hasn't already declared war on Jewish people? You think the people that defend police from justice when they murder unarmed Black men and women, sometimes children, haven't already declared war on the Black community? You think when politicians worm their way through the system and pass laws saying that trans youth must choose between death or life in the wrong body, that they have not declared war on trans youth?

Civil war wouldn't be instigating. It would be fighting back. It would be fighting to preserve the lives of those who are already being preyed upon. To be honest, our best hope is to preserve as many as we can through political channels -- ballots over bullets. But if that failed, I would absolutely rather make a physical fight of it than to let fascism quietly take over as it did in other nations in times past.

"Never Again" means nothing if we let fascists waltz into power or change the rules so that people cannot vote against them and win.

Yeah, this seems like "both sides" bullshit. One side has already chosen violence. Look at how much of the political violence he mentioned (along with more institutional violence) is being perpetrated by one side.

If anything, this will all come down to what happens to Trump, and if that one side reactsso violently that we cannot avoid a civil war (or some conflict) any longer.

Yep, most civil wars around the world are groups like MAGA committing terrorism en masse and trying to force governmental/societal change; the U.S. is pretty unique in that our Civil War was such a clean split of the country. That's not normal at all.
