Watching an SVU marathon and the episode Catfishing Teacher came on. Plot of it was a female high school teacher was having sex with students to give them good grades. Another student was thought to have been lured by her to have sex with and he was missing. Turns out it was a catfish and the male wrestling coach lured him in. They catch the coach but no one wants to testify. The kid that went missing his parents didn't want their son to be known as being raped by coach. They wanted their kid to known as being having sex with female teacher.

One of the older victims from years ago tortures the coach to get a confession so he doesn't have to testify. Coach dies from it and episode ends with Olivia telling the him you need to stop talking get a lawyer. And Olivia begging with the DA character to spare him his life will be ruined if he goes to jail. That was tough to watch. Since I thought the Deus ex machina they pulled out to finish the episode was unnecessary. I thought rape shield laws protected rape victims identity from being outed. Why did the writers suddenly forget that for male victims.

The weird thing about the episode was first half had one side of the SVU department doing the nice meme. That missing kid enjoyed it and other offensive stuff. And they had to be corrected by the other side of Olivia that kid was 15. It is still rape. Once it turned out to be the wrestling coach the doubt of it being rape ended.

It's actually in the SVU spinoff "Organized Crime". But there is an episode where an undercover female cop is found out and executed by a mafia guy. I remember it being pretty disturbing

Yea. It was on this channel called Ion. They air SVU all Saturday. I watch a couple episodes here and there. I unfortunately missed a lot. The last two I remember seeing was the one with Cragen being a suspect. And the one that had the chick from Law and Order Criminal Intent join Olivia.

I should probably look it up to see how far apart those episodes were lol.

Yea. It turns out I missed 3 seasons. I was watching season 14 last time I tuned into the marathon. Now the Catfish episode was in season 17.

Back in middle school I used o consume shows like this and Criminal Minds easily. Now I know how depressing real life is so I don't have it in me to watch darker police procedurals anymore.

I was almost gonna bring up Criminal Minds but I find that show much easier to watch. Cuz CM especially after season 3 is like a SWAT team with psychology superpowers show. They stop the bad guy often. Every time I catch a random SVU episode it's like "yeah this kid got SA'd and killed ten years ago and the mom has been holding out hope ever since and we need to tell her he's not coming back"

Rape shield laws just prevent a witness from being questioned about irrelevant sexual conduct. Has nothing to do with identity and privacy

That is why I can only watch 2 or 3 SVU at a time the way they get their endings get depressing. Often times the criminal of the episode is going to walk free and a vigilante has to kill them for there to be the ending. Like what happened in the OP.

I think that's a good way to try to get viewers to reexamine their own morals. Have some characters that display your viewpoints, then explain and show why they are wrong.
It does make those officers look bad, though. They should have known better.

There was a period back in middle school where I use to watch SVU almost religiously. Always thought Law & Order was boring but SVU really hooked me for a while.

Yea. He kinda got put in a situation if he didn't testify the coach would get off. I know testifying traumatizes the victims again but they made it seem the coach wouldn't have gotten charged with at least kidnapping the missing kid. I know it not rape which is SVU department but that still a serious crime.

My favorite of the shows was Criminal Intent. The sideways head tilt detective was the best detective in the Law and Order series.
